Hi folks,
Here is my mutual dictation exercise. This tests speaking, listening, reading and writing all in one lesson.ALSO, it forces them to use English if done properly. This is one of my favorite exercises I learned from my TESOL course.
I use the dialogue from the chapter.I have a sheet A and a sheet B for two students. The students turn their chairs so they are back to back. This is VERY important. They MUST NOT be able to look at one another's papers. The student with sheet A will read his/her sentence from the dialogue and student B will listen and write what he/she hears on their paper. Then, when student A is finished, the student with sheet B reads his/her sentence and student A writes what he/she hears. This goes on until the dialogue is finished.
I put phrases on the board to help the students out.For example,I put phrases like"How do you spell...""Could you repeat that?" "Speak slowly please" etc. This way, they do not have to speak Korean.
This really gets the kids to speak and think in English.
If there are any questions please ask!!
Jim
P.S. It can get quite noisy when they are all talking but it's a great sound!!!
