NG Textbook - Grade 2 - 'High School English II' (White background with 3 foreigners)

I can load the title page up on my laptop but I can't actually access the textbook. Upon either clicking on the main area, the adobe pdf, or the notebook an error message comes up stating it can't find the correct path.

I can load the CD fine on the Korean computer I have at the school but not on my home laptop. Any ideas how I can access the CD and listen to the material on the laptop?

Laptop =  ASUS X5DIJ Series running Windows 7

*Original post:

The front cover looks like this:

I've just been asked by my high school CTs to incorporate some stuff from the textbook. It's the subsequent edition to the lessons that kindenglishteacher has posted at the top in the stickies.

I'll be sharing my lessons from that book here once I've made some. I think they're going to be pretty basic compared to what I normally do. The material looks very difficult - especially for my high schoolers, who aren't at a high level.

The first lesson is: 'For a better future' teaching key phrases:
'It is expected that...'
'It's surprising that...'

I'm using this book for my second-graders and I just tried to teach a bit of the lesson from Unit 3 on "Do you remember the best place you ever lived?" Totally bombed. It's my third day and I wanted to die. I just couldn't think of a way to make this fun. I only see the second-graders maybe once every two or three weeks, and it's a class full of boys, so I'm having a hard time a) relating to them, and b) making them care. On top of it, there's no internet at my place, so I couldn't search for any decent lessons relating to the unit. I feel like a total failure. The teacher was very kind to me, though; I could see he understood I was kind of lost.

Hey hope, I think you should try adapt and plan around the lesson rather than teaching directly from it. Take out the key phrases and expressions in each one and try to adapt a lesson around that instead.

My first few lessons bombed completely as well - I had to change my approach from what I was taught in TEFL and adjust around my class. I got rid of all practice activities on the advice of my CT and just tried to do a lot of eliciting/games.

I'll post what I make tonight for my 2nd grade lesson tomorrow. =]

Here are the lessons I done for Jobs of the Future.
It comprises of one presentation which you run through - and then you do the textbook tasks.
Once the textbook tasks are done, you resume the second presentation.
(when you're doing the CD part, play once for comprehension with no writing, play again with the text, and play the third time where they can start writing)
You have to elicit the answers from the students in the presentations.
With the leftover time, I played a job game with a Mario Bomb Game.

It's brief but it should hold your hand through the first chapter of the textbook.
Please let me know if you have alternate versions, or let me know how this goes for you / general feedback.

Thanks for the lesson.
My school uses this textbook as well.
I had been making powerpoint lessons for the first semester but the multimedia system kept acting up and now its totally broken. I am managing with my laptop but the screen is too small and dim for the class so I end up just using the text book and the blackboard the old way. Hopefully things will get fixed soon and I will be able to utilize ppts again.

Here's a much more personalized version of My Future Plan. Just change the images and names to match your own.
Again, this works simultaneously with the CD. So have that booted up and play the tracks when prompted.

I don't anticipate this lesson going too well with my 2nd Graders - the conversation practice activities never do.
You need to have something to throw around for the warm up activity. I use a small soccer ball, and take away the chairs of the boys that always end up throwing it too hard.  :D

Hmm. On reflection, this textbook is awful.

Here's my lesson on Lesson 2 Topic 1 - Going to a concert. I didn't write up a lesson Plan on this one buts its still pretty straight forward.

1) First open up class with the music video. Thankfully its topical-

2) Every week I teach my kids a new keyword. Something that no matter what, they must remember if they are to survive in an English speaking country. I make it a challenge for the first kid to raise his hand and say it correctly gets candy. You can even use this trick out of class if you see them in the halls. Surprise them and trick them into learning English.

3) A few review slides from previous lessons (can swap yours in). Learning new phrases and words and then onto-

4) listening practice. The class level determines how long this takes and afterwards can either

5a) Go back to previous PPT and use the movie poster activity (which won't last the rest of the class so you gotta find something else to fill in)or-
5b) Mario Bomb Game. I left my own review slides in there are a guide to new teachers how to slip in older material. Obviously you'd want to clean it up- but in case it isn't obvious yet, REPETITION IS KEY TO LEARNING.

I've finally amassed enough lessons of my own to start sharing here and there, so tell me if they seem useful or not, aight?

Cool, gracĂ, I'll be sure to use this when I'm up to ch2.

Lesson 1, Topic 3
Talking about Future Schools

In the meantime, I've done another PPT for the lesson. Again, it just covers the jist of the lesson - you'll need to supplement something else for the other half.
I'm going to play a game using whiteboards I think, haven't decided yet.

This is a lesson based on the 'Life Skills for the 21st Century' chapter.
I've adapted the first page and left out the second and third page.
That's a huge chunk of reading with a very advanced level of vocabulary, don't think my students are capable of doing that just yet.

This lesson focuses on eliciting from the students. As with all my HS Lessons, you'll have to supplement something else once this lesson is over. I estimate it'll take 20 minutes at most. Get a game ready =]

This is a lesson for 'A Special Person in my Life'.
This lesson involves a lot of eliciting from the students. I have removed a lot of personal photos from this presentation before the upload but obviously you can supplement with your own. I think you'll need maybe an extra bonus activity after this.

Let me know how this goes. This should work perfect for my HS students

Chapter 3, Lesson 1
'Where I lived before'

This teaches the phrase: 'I suppose it was because' and 'Do you remember...'
I'm guessing this will take about 30 minutes at most, I didn't use most of the activities in the textbook because frankly they're pointless.

The slides work as a group class conversation - on bad days, I normally have to throw some candy at the kids for this to work.

At the Library PPT
A lot of eliciting required for this lesson.
Goes through the main vocabulary and key expressions.

Enjoy.

Here is a lesson I made for the chapter: ANIMALS IN DANGER [5.2 - GREEN LIFESTYLE]

Probably the best HS lesson I've made so far on this topic, even if you don't use the textbook you should have a look at this and see if you can use it. The activities based around the textbook are minimal and you can easily teach the class without it.

This is for the chapter, 'getting on with our neighbours' and covers key expressions:

[1] 'I would like to invite you to' . . .
and
[2] Would it be okay if. . .

The lesson will take you 30 minutes at most. The rest of the time I will use to play category hangman and do some journal writing.

If anyone else out there is using this textbook, please throw us a bone. I'm completely bamboozled now as to how to adopt these awful lessons with 2 awkward key expressions and rubbish activities -_-

Mattaru, could you post all the unit titles and the publisher/authors of the textbook? Then I can make an index for the whole text with links to each unit.
