Huge Christmas Trivia Game PPT
« on: December 06, 2010, 12:57:44 PM »
This game should take up an entire class period. Divide students into teams. Teams take turns choosing a question (1-54). If they answer correctly, click and a box with a question mark will appear. Click on the question mark to reveal how many points the team has earned (1, 2, or 3). If teams select one of the stars, they get to steal 2 points from another team. This keeps the game fun, because one team cannot get too far ahead and even teams that don't know much have an opportunity to get points.

By the way, this is a hybrid of a few different PPT games that I've found on teaching websites. Special thanks to those who designed the templates for "The Monster Game" (available on EFL 2.0), "Star Power" (waygook.org), and "BAAM."

This is really something, well done.
I especially love the hangman you've made.

This must have taken you a long time. Thank you for sharing.
The only glitch I can find is on slide 54 - there doesn't appear to be a box of points for the correct answer 'coal'.
Am I just missing it?

This looks like a really awesome game.... but I must be doing something wrong.

When I click on the numbers, they just disappear. It doesn't take me to any page with a question. What am I doing wrong?

Same here... when i click on the box with the question mark, its just goes to the next question. Also what is the slide with the teams numbers for? Thanks for your help and hard work.

I added a box for slide 45 ---

Amazing PPT! I hope my students like it ^^

For those having issues, I also couldn't it it to work in OpenOffice, but it works fine in PPT. Try some different programs!

How do you guys plan on organizing the game?  Will each team take turns getting to choose and answer a question?  Or is it a race to see which team raises their hand first?

I taught this lesson in a traditional classroom with the 5x8 grid of desks.  I made each column a team (so 8 teams of approx 5 each), and the teams took turns.

I found that the "fastest team to raise their hand" approach led to lots of random guessing on the multiple-choice questions.

BTW, the lesson plan is great.  It easily fills 45 minutes and the students loved it.  I only added about 10 slides up front to explain some words.  My students didn't know about the Grinch, so I still need to find a way to work that in.

I played it today and did it one question per group around the class with a lightening round at the end.

If you answered wrong then I subtracted the points under the box  :D

Sonya

Thanks again!
