(YBM) Grade 5, Lesson 3 - "Whose MP3 Player is This?"
« on: March 13, 2012, 02:38:14 pm »
I'm not sure how or if I can link this to the correct chapter under the 2012 books section so just posting this here. It's a PPT I made for the second period of teaching this chapter though it can be used anytime really. The first 13 slides are practicing the phrases "Is this your...", "Yes, it is/No, it isn't", "Whose ........ is this", "It's my....../it's mine"
Slide 14 on is a writing exercise/game where the students have to guess who a certain item belongs to from the pictures of the possible owners which are obscured.
I use a lot of animations (possibly too many due to cutting and pasting slides) so delete/edit as needed!

Here I attached three ppts.

One is for grammar.  Actually, it was made for another textbook, but it works well to practice grammar for this unit as well.

I used the mes cards first to practic poss.pronouns.  I used the one for unit 3 to practice making questions...practic ing sub-verb agreement and this/that. these/those.  But, if your students are lower level maybe it's easier to save that/those for another time.

the final (or first I dont know which order they load) is for practicing grammar.  Hope these help.

Sorry about the last two posts.  They were obviously meant for Lesson 2.  In any event, here is a lucky wheel game for Lesson 3.  I just played it with my class.

Sentence cards that can be used for the game after the writing session.

BTW, these sentence cards can also be used for BINGO.  We are playing BINGO after Part 3 (Reading).  The students will lay the cards out like a BINGO board and when we call a sentence they will turn the card over.  They win just like in regular BINGO.

This is a worksheet I made to go with this chapter. Some of my kids really need to get to used to making and writing full sentences so this a start. Section's 1 & 2 go along with lessons 1 & 2 from this chapter, the third section can be used anyday. Hope it helps someone.

Hey guys, hope you can find these ppts useful!

"Cinderella" is a quick story (of cinderella) practicing the key expressions. I used this as a warmup/motivation.

"Grammar Check" is a ppt that focus on the many different pronouns in English and their Korean counterparts. This is REALLY useful for students to practice the key expressions (Whose ___ is this? It's ____. It's my ___. etc)

"Pirates of the Classroom" is a pirates of the carribean themed (group) game. This ppt drills "What a (adj) (noun)!" pattern. The students make an exclamation using the pictures along the top and the words along the sides (for example, what a big house!) It's a bomb-ish game in that each exclamation you can either earn points, lose points, or everyone loses points! The students loved this game and it's a great way to drill "What a (adj) (noun)!"

"감탄문연습게임" is a ppt that drills the key expressions of the chapter. This is useful for an intro to the chapter, or after the Look & Speak or Look & Listen activities.

I edited a Pokemon Game version from Sprite06 to cover the key expressions in this lesson.  This is best used with period 3 at earliest, period 4, 5, or 6 at best.

Did anyone have a good game idea for period 1 that they would like to suggest?  I don't want to use the Fun and Fun 1 that's in the book.

For period 1 I did the fun and fun1 in the book but I added word sheets with possessives on them (his, hers, mine/my, etc.) then said a sentence and students had to be the fastest to hit the two correct papers.  i divided class into two teams and went through all the students.  Students really enjoyed it.

Wow this is amazing! thanks so much!

For period one Fun and Fun used the pictures and three others and created a 3x3 grid on the floor. I split my kids into two groups (mind you I only have 6 kids in year 5) and called out a card "Is that your small computer?" etc and they responded with a key expression "It's mine". The first team to come up with a matching expression got to place a body part on the card i called out.

The person to have the most body parts on the cards earns 2 point for their team, the loser gets 1. If a body part accidentally slips from a card the other team wins by default and earns 2 points.

It's kind of like twister, if my explanation makes sense at all. I adapted it from a grade 6 lesson.

Thanks Jintoki and Sprite06. I'm usually not too interested in the sea of ppt files floating on the server, but this is quality. Job well done.

This is a find the sentence partner race activity.
I would say the sentence and the students would find the sentence before their partner.

NOTE: You probably should remind your students not to punch each other out of the way to get the sentence.
