Vocab and role play...Just a note: the role play is funny but its use depends on your school because it seems to be okay to discuss dung in my school and my kids get a kick out of it. Hence the title "Don't Be a Dung!"

A short PPT that I made with my low level Gr 5 class to introduce "May I go to the bathroom". The pictures with no words at the end I had them make up the sentences themselves and the two possible responses.
Afterwards as a game I wrote the key target language on the board and had the SS stand up. When I point to a word with one finger they must say the word out loud, when I point with two fingers they must remain quiet. If you say something while I'm pointing with two fingers, you must sit down. In a large class I would have "the last person standing wins", but seeing as I only have two SS in this class I just gave their friend a point when they themselves spoke while I pointed with two fingers.

This is a very shy and small class and they actually spoke for the first time, so it was quite a breakthrough.

Mother may I...?
This game went well in a class of 4 groups/17 students. It might get boring with too many students though. Write the dialogue on the board to help students if they don't have the key expressions memorized yet (May I....come in/play outside/go to the bathroom/ etc...) I did this on the first period so they needed the dialogue as a guide. They struggled with confidence at the beginning of the game but were screaming the key expressions by the end.

Have one group close their eyes or blindfold them while the rest of the class views the slide. (After the class sees key expression, you can flip to the blank slide and the "blindfolded" group can open their eyes)The blind folded group must ask the class "Mother may I..." until they guess the phrase that matched the one on the powerpoint. If they guess the wrong phrase that class should respond with "Sorry, you can't." When they guess the correct phrase the class should respond "Sure, go ahead/Sure, here you are." If they guess correctly on the first try they get 6 points, then 5, then 4, and so on. It was funny to see them freak out when they guess it on the first try.

The second game is a pretty standard evolution ppt for some individual practice with dialogue.

This is a simple review ppt if you want to use it. I used it in the 3rd lesson. My class is pretty low level and is struggling to remember the sentences.

The Look and Listen video is pointless. It spends the majority of the video reinforcing students' bathroom humor and only introduces two of the five phrases they want the students to rote memorize in the unit.

I am working on an alternative story using Storybird so that I can skip the Look and Listen video. I will update this post with a story link when I am finished.

For now I have captured some screens from throughout the unit and made a Pass the Ball game using Prezi.

(kj3927, this might help you, but you will have to talk with your co-t and ask if they think it will work. I haven't tried it yet.)

First period I am using some of the book, plus a Ppt. from here. I made a card game based on something I saw online. If you need more explanation, please write me! I wrote the directions as clearly as I can in the doc, so hopefully it makes sense! Thanks guys!

Also, I just want to say thanks to everyone! I appreciate all I find here and use, so I truly hope this helps someone out!! Take care everyone!!

Update on what happened!: It worked out pretty well. Just be sure to explain to the students they need to wait to pick up the blue card until the Green May I card has been said... also tell them to say that part. Some students tried to just hold up the green, the blue yes/no was pulled and then would put them back without saying anything... grrr.. ahaha. Just letting you know what happened. Hope it helps! :)

Here is a ppt that I put together. It is a little short story. It is nothing like TeacherMC's story. It is really simple and doesn't introduce too much grammar. I don't think my students would be able to follow anything with new and different grammar :(
I tried to use Kpop singers, but I am new here and couldn't find any Kpop artists with names that start with M,S, or N...
