1 activity for this lesson - I though of using the text book pg 50 (Write about us) and get them to make a card for parents day and write it. So I would get them to write it on the text book first and check there grammar. Then give them colour paper to make a card with it. I would tell them to bring colour pencils, pens, glue and scissors in advance. They can write what they wrote in Pg 50 on the card they made and give it to their parents on Parent's day.

Great crossword search for students to complete in groups, warm up, or individually.  Includes vocab and expressions from the lesson and a few extras. Comes with answers.

Here is an Uno game. I borrowed the format from somewhere else on Waygook. The game is played the same as regular uno. It's recommended to only have 4-6 players. Let me know if you have any questions

Here is a bingo game for this lesson. On another note, I somehow have managed to make the 6th grade waygook page shrink, so that i can barely read it, all the other parts of waygook are fine except for the 6th grade section. i am not computer savy and have obviously pressed something I was not meant to press, but if anyone knows how to fix this problem could they pm. thanks.

Asking them to make a real card is a great idea, thank you!

My CT and I were thinking along the same lines and wanted to give the students a little more space for their writing practice. We made a simple 1-page document with 4 identical boxes per page, and each box is (almost exactly) the same writing activity from page 50: Write about Us.  Each student gets 1 box to glue in their book on page 51 (over Hello, World!).

Reminder/FYI: Parents' Day is May 8th

Here's a version of Catch the words for Lesson 4 and a video clip of Robin Hood: Men in tights, that starts off with the saying "Lend me your ears!", which was an interesting idiom to discuss in class, since we're dealing with the topic of borrowing and lending.

Intro PP to practice key expressions and flick game for practice.    In flick game, I'll have the team answer 2 questions before they can flick their piece - so more time is spent on learning the phrases.

Angry Birds Bomb Game. Thanks to the person who first made the template!
I think that the hyperlinks work, but I apologize if there are any mistakes.

I made a bingo game for my advance class for this lesson. It gets them practising "May /Can" a lot.

Each student will get a bingo sheet (laminated), boardmarker and eraser. In groups of 4-5, play bingo by asking questions (May I.../can I...).
If the majority of the student answers correctly then the person asked question can crossout the sign on their board. But if everyone saids the same answer then everyone in the group can crossout the sign on their board.
When one person in their group have one bingo, the yell out "Bingo". Everyone erase the board and play again and make 2 bingo and then 3 bingo and so on.

It takes some time to explain this game. I suggest that you do it with your students and show them rather then explaining it word by word. Also I went over the signs so they would know the vocabulary before hand.

My students loved it and they had fun! I've attached the PPT and the bingo pictures on word doc. (You can move the pictures and make different bingo sheets. I made 6 different ones so they wouldn't have the same ones in their group)

Enjoy!

Thank you for that Uno game. My 6th graders have midterms tomorrow and they didn't want to study. After 20 minutes I explained the game and we played through break. My c/t usually takes the second English class, but he had a meeting, so we kept playing. It took them 50 minutes to finally play through to the last person (they were VERY good about making sure the player didn't have a chance to say "uno!" I had to referee). Ended right before lunch. They said it was the best game, and even my lowest level student got lots of speaking practice in.

I added the names of the colors to the cards, since I don't have access to a color printer. I think I'm going to reuse this game with other classes. I've posted the deck with the names of the colors. Here's a quick list of the rules (I had to look them up):

UNO RULES
  • Print, cut out and shuffle all the cards together
  • Depending on size of the group, give out 5-7 cards (I had 9 people, so we did 5 cards)
    dealer deals card, "May I..."
    • Player to dealer's left may match the color of the card or the phrase on the card
    • They say "May I..." when they put the card down. This goes for ALL the cards, including Reverse, Skip etc.
      • They can play an Any Color card at any time. Say the color you want to play
      • If you have no card to play, draw a card and lose a turn
        • Say "Uno!" (or "One!") when you have one card left!
        • If someone has one card and doesn't say Uno/One, they get two more cards.
          • First person to get rid of all their cards wins

And if someone could explain why the bullets look so funky, I'd appreciate it. First time using this feature. Thanks!
