At the Supermarket
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:59:44 PM »
Did this lesson today...and was a success!...This is also one of the lessons ive made from scratch!

I've made it really colourful as my school is reputable for having noisy, active, and uninterested kids.  So getting attention is key

For full effects of this ppt i suggest using Office 2010 but others are ok as well, but won't be as animated  ;D

I finished off this lesson with a bomb game  8)

Enjoy and any comments and criticisms welcome =D

Note: The stars you see in my slides are my sticker rewards system...just take them out  ::)

Hey I love the powerpoint!  I'll use it with my grade 1's.  But I have a question.  Where's the bomb game?  Can you upload it?

Thanks

Jason

Thanks kenlumlee,

This looks awesome...am going to use it with my 1st graders, a lot of whom currently don't want to speak much English in class (as much as I try to make them - Gr 2+3 no problems !!) - this will give them the opportunity to learn valuable words and conversations whilst keeping it pretty simple and straightforward - I like the way you have made this ppt flow  ;D

Pororo game will be good for reviewing at the end of the lesson :-)

Much appreciated!!!

Just want to say that I love this lesson you made!  I used it yesterday and it went over really well with my 1st and 2nd level students. I made a few changes to some of the slides vocabularly, mainly because I personally don't use some of the words like "trolley", and I also added a link to a super entertaining shopping video at the beginning of the PPT.  The kids get a kick out of the video and it is a great way to kick off the lesson!  I also added a slide where they practice the dialogue with a partner.  Thanks again for the superb work you did on this lesson!  I really appreciate it and I will be using it today for open classes...wish me luck!  ;D

Here is the revised PPT and game:

Wow, I just used this lesson plan, and it was awesome. I used the version OP made, and it was great, even though I am American. I just pointed out to the kids that you can call a "trolley" a "cart" and a "queue" a "line". No problems. I used it for my beginner level class where the kids are usually very quiet and reserved, the lesson really got them excited, and had them all talking. The game went over great, the kids loved it! I plan on using this for my intermediate classes later today. Great work, just wanted to say thanks!

Great lesson, OP.
If any one has the freedom I do with after school/small classes, I'm taking my kids (only 5ish) to the supermarket down the road. I've made a scavenger hunt for them to complete using their phones to take photos and writing the English name. Also, a ppt to teach the vocab from the hunt sheet.
Probably not too much use to most people, but this seemed like a good thread to add it to :)

Thanks again, OP

Tried this out with my Monday Morning class of 2nd Graders - Low Level. They responded very well. All of the vocabulary was new to them - and they produced the language during the game - excellent. I wanted to put in a practice slide as well but time was short - and the lesson ended before I even finished my game. :blank:
My first day I watched a few lessons and had my first class which was a Grade 2 class or something like that. I thought every things was great until a kid ddong-chimmed me.

I made more additions to these powerpoints.  I got inspired by the Side by Side 2 Student book.

This was one of my most successful lessons.  For the dialogue part I would use a hang man game and give them hints to help them fill in the space.  Then I would offer them candy with one student playing the A part and one student the B part.  Students enjoy roleplays so much  more when they are offered candy.

Thanks for this, it looks really good!

My co-teacher loves students to write vocabulary words so I made a quick worksheet (pdf included for those that don't have Publisher).
