Perfect for this Chapter.

A scrambled sentences game for period 4 that has reading and writing. I usually have the students compete in groups. If they get it right, they get a point. You could also give them 3 points for a perfect sentence, and maybe 2 points for the right sentence, but wrong grammar. Up to you, of course. I also added a answer key so that you can check where you are in the 'game'.

Here's a secret code ppt.

I usually give each team a whiteboard and a time limit to write the sentence.

  • Let's have fun teaching the 4th grade.
I have a milling activity for my grade 6 class.

Each student gets a board with sickness and the treatment for that sickness. They walk around the class asking the dialogue.

Students play rock paper scissors. The winner (A) selects a sickness.
A: What is the matter?
B: I have _________ (the sickness selected by A).
A: That is too bad, you should ____________ (the treatment for the sickness selected by A).

By playing rock paper scissors this will ensure that students get a sickness assigned for them by the other player when they lose.

I have checked this activity with my co teacher and hopefully it should work out well when I try it with my 6th grade classes.
PV=nRT

Where
P is pressure
V is volume
n is number of moles
R is the gas constant
T is the temperature

Here is the worksheet for this lesson. Print the front (obverse) and back (reverse) so the sheet flips on the short edge, and glue it into the book on page 39.

Here are some materials I made. I've only used the Chase the Vocab game, and that went over vastly well, so yoke the students enthusiasm and it should be good. Also, they like the "sickness song," it's a good introductory motivation, if nothing else!

The Mario and Lucky Wheel game, I adapted, but probably should be used for 3rd or 4th periods, at the earliest.

Story - I'm Too Ill
« Reply #14 on: April 04, 2012, 12:13:42 PM »
I used this story from the British Council Learn English website to create this ppt. I created my own questions at the end to recap the story and some words. Feel free to edit it.

http://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/

The "print screen" button on your keyboard captures a screen image that you can paste in word and then edit to create a ppt like this. This is what I have done for numerous stories for lessons that have always gone over well with my students. You can also try adding .wav music files to the ppt for extra effect.

This is a PPT game that we (co-teacher and I) used for last year's Lesson 13 'That's Too Bad'. Seeing how 'I Have a Fever' is pretty much covering the same vocabulary, I am going to use this again. Edit as you see fit. Hope it helps.

Here's a video and worksheet that works well for this lesson. I've also attached cards and instructions for the Chickenpox game, which works nicely too.

This video from Adam Thomas is a good icebreaker: http://www.adamthomasphotography.com/Other/Videos/17145463_TnfwpG/1549812331_G9qwp8Z#!i=1555572139&k=rzRRXKW&lb=1&s=A

This is another good video icebreaker, but requires a little pre-teaching about what diarrhea is:

Hope it's helpful!

Here's a ppt dealing with the grammar of the chapter. I tried to emphasize the differences in conjugation when using I versus he and she. Also tried to expand a bit, and include "my [_____] hurts" to make it more natural.

Surprisingly, my kids were really engaged by Simon Says with diseases and maladies. They're just this close to feeling too cool for the games I come up with, but getting to act out vomiting and black eyes (I also include broken necks) seemed to get them going.
