Here is a handout I put together for lesson 5. It's nothing fancy, but it will get the job done. The blazing pens ppt should also come in handy.

I don't know about anyone else's 5th graders, but I have quite a few who are way above the others in the class in terms of English ability. When it comes to reading time, my co-teacher and I have decided to split the class in half. I take the advanced students, she takes the rest. So, in preparation, I make a short story for the kids to read that is relevant to the lesson we're studying. They have to either answer some questions or draw some pictures (last time I had them draw what they think happens next) so I can tell their level of comprehension..
Needless to say, I thought I'd share this lesson's story with others just in case you want to do the same for your class. Hopefully there is someone out there that can needs to and/or wants to utilize it! It's super basic English (I wrote it all in the present tense) but my students really enjoyed it last time.

A motivational video I made last year for Lesson 6: I get up at seven everyday... the content and expressions are pretty much the same. Feel free to use. Cheers!

These are just large flashcards I use to refresh their memories at the beginning of each class. The sentences are on the slides at the end so you can take each picture out and flip it over to print on the back.

This is a PPT that has a picture of a daily activity and some type of clock. Ss must say or write the sentence or question. I used this as a writing activity and had some students come to the board. If it got too easy for them, I called up 2 Ss and turned it into a competition to see who could finish the sentence faster without mistakes.

I have open class for Day 3. Here are my materials.
1)
A Korean High School Student's Day
video
(for review of daily activities). It's about 12 seconds long. If you have Gom Player, you can slow down the playback speed using the X key. (C key will speed it up again.)
2)
A Korean High School Student's Day
ppt
. Prompts the students to make sentences about daily activities (in the first person). The last slide of the ppt is a prompt for the "Body Clock" game.
3)
Time Cards for the
Body Clock Game
. Volunteer students come to the front and put their hands in the correct position for the time they picked out of the ? bag. Use a stick/pointer for the minute hand, and other hand is the hour hand. If their team guesses the correct time, they get a point. (It was easier for the other students to see the time if the volunteer stood on a chair.)
4)
SpongeBob and Patrick's
Earlier and Later
Guessing Game
ppt. Directions are contained in the ppt. Students guess the time each character does different daily activities.
5)
SpongeBob Game Answer Key
. Print it out so you know the answers.
6)
SpongeBob and Patrick Masks
. Each teacher (if you have a co-teacher) is one character. Otherwise, you can put the masks on sticks and hold up the correct one. (They're the kind of "mask" that goes on a headband so that the character sits on your forehead.)
EDIT: RE-posting the SpongeBob game, because apparently I had the Korean for "Earlier" and "Later" switched! Oh no!
EDIT # 2: I forgot the FONTS. Where is my mind...?
In the
FONTS rar file
are two fonts, Curse Casual JVE and SpongeFont SquareType. You have to download them, then copy/move to the fonts folder.
You can find the fonts folder from the Start menu, then System Folder (look for "S" if your computer is in Korean), then Control Panel ("C" in Korean). The fonts folder has the icon of an A over a folder (my computer crashes if I open the Control Panel when Firefox is open, so I can't check what the folder is actually called right now...).
FYI - The Curse Casual font doesn't give much space between words, so in the PPT, there is a double spacebar between each word.
EDIT (2013): I changed the
SpongeBob PPT
slightly, and this time I
embedded
the fonts (I finally got Office in English this year, so it was really easy to figure out how to do that, finally finally). Since it was taking forever for students to guess the correct time, I made a rule that they have to guess the HOUR only first, to narrow it down more quickly. You should also probably point out to them that Patrick is really weird, so he does stuff at odd times. (One class was astounded that he ate dinner so early...)

Entertaining song for practicing the key expression "On ___days."
"I Never Go To Work" by They Might Be Giants.
aka "The Seven Days of the Week."
I created a
subtitle file
to go with it. Just keep the SRT file in the same folder (if you change the name of the video file in any way, make sure the SRT file has the exact same name).
Gom Player should play the subtitles automatically. If not, click ALT + H to show subtitles.
Since some of the lyrics are a little hard for students, I used a 1 page
Lyrics ppt
to teach the lyrics line by line.
Finally, a
Lyrics doc
you can print out if necessary.
*Note: The ZIP file contains both the video and SRT file, since I couldn't post the SRT file by itself.
EDIT (2013): I just made this
Gap Fill worksheet
, which helps the students to practice writing "On Monday
s
" etc. If they have to actually write something, they tend to pay more attention to the video! I printed it out 2 per page. (I also didn't have time for this song until Day 4 this time, thus the discrepancy in the file name.)

Oh, and here's the Looney Tunes cartoon I showed last year for the old Lesson 6.
http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,788.msg109760.html#msg109760
There's a link to the video, and the PPT to use afterward.
EDIT (2013): New link (currently on YouTube) to the cartoon
"A Sheep in the Deep"
:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am8mrtdKM5U
Attached is my newer, revised version of the PPT and a kinda low quality copy of the video.
