Class Warm-ups - Greetings/ intro
« on: March 28, 2012, 09:42:21 AM »
Im interested to know what people do at the beginning of their classes, particularly with 5th/6th grade. I usually do the basic questions: how are you?, the weather, the day, date, time, what they'll do on the weekend (in korean) etc. It's starting to get pretty boring for me as well as them at this stage. I used to play a western pop song or something in English at the start but my ct doesn't like that.

What kinda stuff do you use at the start of the class?

Any ideas would be great.

I usually try and find a relevant but fun video for the beginning. You could try and find funny commercials too. But if you CT doesn't like doing songs she may not like video either!

How about a quick hangman game reviewing past vocab? You could always google icebreakers/warmers.

I don't do it here but back home I had a riddle, joke or question on the board and they had from when they walked in to 5 minutes into the start of class to try and solve the riddle or answer the question. Then I would take a few minutes to hear answers. The students liked it. You could try that. You could also try putting up a tongue twister and giving them time to read and practice it then see who can say it correctly and the fastest?! You could also try (with the help of your ct) putting up a Korean word/phrase and they have to translate it?! I don't know... just throwing out ideas!

Yeah the hangman could be a good idea. I just want something different to use occasionally so its not so predictable. They're really low level so I think my options are limited.

maybe try a picture with the Korean word that they have to translate? that might make it easier.
