Lesson 2: What day is it today? Angry Birds

I have included a complete game for the second lesson. In my format, my co-teacher keeps score and we elicit the correct answers. There are fill ins as well as review questions and scrambled words. Hope this helps someone. ;)

Here are some materials I used for this lesson.

1. A Days of the Week song. Good for period 1.

2. Say the missing words. Students listen to the dialog between Lilo and Stitch, then read it out loud (boys once character, girls the other). Each round gets harder as more words are covered up.

3. Blazing Markers game. In teams, students must unscramble the word/ sentence and write it on their whiteboards/notebooks before the   timer runs out.

4. Mind reading game. Instructions are on the PPT.

5. Snakes and ladders. For 2 or 3 players. Players do rock scissors paper. If you win with rock, you can advance 1 block, scissors = 2 blocks and paper = 3 blocks. Loser(s) ask the question and the winner answers. If you move to a green square, go up the ladder. If you move to a red square, go down the snake. (You can't go up snakes or down ladders.)

Chapter 2. Period 2

Simple "Student A /  Student B" game.

Students fold paper in half and take turns explaining their respective schedules. The other students fills in the schedule they hear in the Weekly Planner.

"When do you have (subject)?"
"I have (subject) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Period 1 and 2"

*EDIT*
I've added a modified version that is more suitable for G5.  Here Student A is girls. Student B is boys.  They walk around and fill in the missing schedule.

At the end they ask any student
"What subject do you like?" "Do you like _________?"   <--(Insert 1 subject)
The first 6 people that say yes, they write their name's down.

I just made this quick Battleship game so the students can practice asking and answering. You may need to alter the last slide so the squares fit when you print the page out. I used this as part of my second and third lesson with them.

ASK:
Do you have (math) on (Tuesday)?

ANSWER:
HIT: Yes, I do.
MISS: No, I don't.

The kids seemed to enjoy it. However, you do need a good co-t to help explain the rules of the game.

A good youtube vid to practice the days of the week. It's to the tune of the 'Adams Family' song.

My students really enjoyed singing along to this.
