pass the banana phone. someone else didnt know how to embed a song, so i did it for them and added a stop sound. everything seems to be in order. i just pass around 2 phones and the 2 people that have them when the song stops will make a conversation. buying banana, just seems... unnecessary.

i thought i embedded the song correctly, but i guess not. i attached the mp3. i hope raffi doesnt sue us. just have the mp3 in the same folder as the ppt. everything should work perfectly then.

Doraemon quiz game, adapted from other sources, hope it doesn't show.

Anyone use Skype for this lesson or a similar lesson? I like the idea as the kids can see my family on video, but with this dialogue and the low level of my students I'm not sure how effective it would be. Sure it could be fun, but are they really gonna learn from it? Also, with 5 classes in a row with breaks and lunch in between I know I'm tying down my family for an entire evening (Pacific standard time) so I want to make it worth their while.

The kids who are more into English and/or the "world" are very excited and have long lists of questions.  The kids who don't care have prepared one question each, mainly things like "Do you like apples?"  So I imagine, as with many things, half of my class will love it and get a lot from it and for the other half, it will be shrugs and mumbled English.

BTW, I threw the dialogue out the window.  My kids have it down well enough, so we're just doing question/answer.

I'm giving it go this Friday too. I told my co-teacher today that I'm going to treat this more as a motivation activity rather than a learning one. I'll still have them ask the "Hello. May I speak to Mr./Mrs. _______?" and have my family member respond with the ridiculous "speaking!" After that I'm gonna have it more of an open ended free time for the kids to ask whatever they want. Also, my family is going to use an Ipad so they can move around the house, show the various different rooms, stairs in the house, pets, etc... I think for them to show the night sky as it of course will be daytime here. My co-teacher and I agreed too that we will let the kids talk as much as they want , so long that the majority of them are participating. This could last for 10 minutes or just 1-2.

Not sure if this game is already out there or not, but I created this one based on the Channel 4 show, Deal or No Deal. I used this for 5th and 6th Graders (different questions obviously for 6th) and they all enjoyed it. They got really into it and it got quite...intense shall we say.

To use the PPT, just click on the number to get to the question, click on either the word Deal or the word No Deal to get to the points and then on the red circle with the points to get back to the main page with the boxes.

Hope it makes sense and, if you use it, I hope your class enjoys it! I would check the Korean phrases with your co-teacher, because Google can be a little off sometimes and I would run through all of the hyperlinks first. They all worked for me, but just to be safe. This was my first time making any kind of bomb game from scratch.

Story Land Activities

These are Story Land worksheets you can use for Ss.
Activity 1
Sequence of Story
Groups: 4-6 Students
Materials: Worksheet
Objective: Group has 3 minutes to arrange the strips of paper (12 strips into a full dialogue) into perfect order. Feel free to distribute a prize as necessary.  I generally give the group with the least and second least number of errors a prize.

1) Listen to Storyland asking the kids questions about the story

2) Let students listen to Story land at least 2 times (depending on level of students) and then give them the strips of paper

3) I gave my students 3 minutes to assemble the list in the correct order. Once completed, tell Ss not to touch the order (encourage the students to be honest and that cheating will result in negative consequences)

4) Play the story and pause for each new strip.

5) Students who have the wrong strong must put the strip on the another desk.

6) At the end, determine which groups have the least errors.
