This is an idea I'm going to try tomorrow.

True or false - one student leaves the room, then I hide a piece of candy. Three students are brought to the front of the room. The first student returns and asks them "Where is the candy?

Two lie, one tells the truth - the first student has to guess. If they guess correctly, they and the student who told the truth get candy, if they don't, the liar's get candy.

If the students aren't capable to coming up with their own true/false sentences you could suggest some to them or prepare cards for them in advance of the lesson.

I've expanded the memory games posted earlier and added the pictures provided by the textbook.

I split the class in to four teams. With each new picture, I gave the class 5 seconds to study it. If they can remember the location of the object without the picture hint, I gave them 2 points. If they remember the location with the picture hint, I gave them 1 point.

After each round, we look at the picture again and describe where each object is as a class.

I also added a "Where's the key?" guessing game after the memory game as a 'just in case' filler. That ppt was made by another user for grade 4, so thanks for that!

I was just going to post this song but you beat me to it. Its great and my 5th grade were singing to it. I told them to listen and afterwards if they told me what they heard I would give a sticker. Really good for advanced and low because they understand. Here is the file if anyone needs it. I have taken from here more times than I can remember so I hope this helps someone!

Thank you thank you! You rock!  :-*

I made a PPT based on a post I found from last years story time tips.  I give all credit to that original poster.

Basically,

Listen to the CD
Read with the CD

PPT
Ss underline 3 words they think are important.
One student (A) reads the script from the PPT.
When (A) says any word, the Ss who underlined that word must say it.

Ss memorize one of the lines. They start standing up and say the line and sit down as the story goes on.  For this, all the Ss memorized the same line. For the 2nd class I told each group to memorize each scene in respect to their group number. 1 reads the first scene and so on. ( I made this clearer in the 6th grade version of this)

The Skeleton game is simple but fun for them. Have them read the sentences. They loved it.

Then, a student translates each line.

Good luck everyone. Story Time can be enjoyable!

This is great here is a introductory motivational movie

Lots of prepositions in here and students like watching it (Simon's cat clip);

Here are a couple of ppts that I used for prepositions. One is based off the Simon the cat video. My kids loved it!

Re: Game for Section 2
« Reply #49 on: May 23, 2013, 08:47:49 pm »
This is an idea I have for section 2 game. Just thought of it, maybe it'll work, who knows.

What you'll need:
*3 Cups labelled 1-3
*Dice (or a small ball or a wad of paper, whatever)

*Team 1 closes their eyes.
*I pick a student to hide the "dice" under one of the cups.
*'Team 1' opens their eyes.
*Everyone asks them the question: "Where is the dice?"
*They can either respond: "I have no idea.", or "It's under cup #__.".
*If they respond: "I have no idea.", they automatically get 1 point.
*If they choose to risk it and respond: "It's under cup #__." and get it right, they get three points. Wrong = minus 1 point.

Turns out the crazier kids/all-boys team were also the risk takers. And they ended up winning.

*I changed the rules after the first class (modified above)

Great idea! I used this as a motivation for my kids.
To make the game comply more with the book  I glued printed out pictures of a glove, a house and a desk on the cups.  So that my students were making complete sentences... The ball is in the house. The ball is under the desk.
Not only am I teaching English, I'm teaching Ninja Skills.

I made a scavenger hunt Prezi. You'll need to save a copy and do some editing unless your room is laid out exactly like mine. http://prezi.com/q_cffokirbls/scavenger-hunt-game/

Here's a worksheet I slapped together really quick! It focuses mostly on prepositions and writing practice. Put the pages in whatever order you like and feel free to make any changes. I thought I'd post it since I'm always pulling lessons from here.

Once students are comfortable making sentences with prepositions, divide them into teams. For each preposition, give them a minute or two to write as many true sentences about things in the classroom using the given word (We are in school, The eraser is in the pencil case, My brain is in my head, etc). Let them be creative as long as it's correct.  :azn:

Here is a PPT with things to do for the Reading and Writing lesson. I used some of the ideas other users posted and refined them for my needs.

Reading Day:
-Start with explaining the difference between IS/ARE and how its used in these particular sentences. My co teacher helped me then explain it in Korean.
-Let's Read in the book. I then made an activity for the students to create their own prepositional sentences. The PPT explains how to do this.
-Simon's Cat video, then asking/answering questions in regards to where the cat is.
-Speed reading. Students will read sentences first in 3, then 2, and finally in 1 second. After each page, students can share what sentence they read.

Writing Day:
-Read and Move. Students will take turns reading one word from the passage. After, add the challenges to the passage while they read. Honestly I would only get to the fourth challenge so I would have enough time for the rest of the activities.
-Free Writing. Was taken from another user but I added a picture that my students could use to write sentences about. I would go over how to write a sentence, and then each group would receive a picture so they can work together. I would then check their work, and have someone from each group read aloud at least 1 sentence they wrote.
-Correct it! Students will correct the sentences individually. Once finished I would check their work. Then review as a class what needed correcting.

For the 5th period of lesson 4 I'm having the students go on a scavenger hunt. I typed up a series of clues, cut them into strips, and hid them around the school outside. Each new clue tells where the next clue can be found using prepositions learned in lesson 4, ex: 'The first clue is on the pink telephone.' Students have to work together to read and find the clues. At the end of the scavenger hunt there will be a prize for all the students to find. I'm thinking chocopies. ;) Here's an example of the scavenger hunt clues I will be using, but they are

I basically lifted the slides from presentations already posted here, so thanks!

The game is simple. Break up the kids into teams, and give them one or two minutes. Have one kid stand in front of the t.v. (or print out the slides, and stand behind them), and have the other kids on the team line up in front of the kid and speak KOREAN ONlY in order to have the kid guess what's on the slide. He/She must respond in English.

One point for each correct ansewr.

Grade 5, Lesson 4 - Hidden Picture Warmup + Drawing Game
« Reply #59 on: June 11, 2014, 12:22:18 pm »
I did this for 4th period of lesson 4.  During the warmup, students had to raise their hands and tell me where and item was in the picture.  If they got it correct, they got one point.  Then we watched a 6 minute cartoon, we reviewed vocabulary, and they play the draw a picture game. During the game, you have to click the 60 second button to start the timer and to reveal the first instruction. Afterward, we checked the answers together with the PPT.

Enjoy!
