Is this lesson really called "Who's button is this"?

"who's" is a contraction of "who is".  It should be "Whose button is this?".

Just checking, as I can certainly believe the textbook could be wrong.  But if it is, we should correct it as we teach it.

Ok, OP you should check your material.  It has many instances of "Who's" which should be "Whose".

I visited the YBM book's thread "Whose MP3 player is this?" and took an intro PPT and modified it for the chapter. It's very basic and short. I found a Cinderalla story that goes well with the target language over there too. I will post it here for convenience's sake but by no means do I claim any credit other than downloading and reuploading to help the other teachers. I think that's OK to do, but if not, please PM me and I'll hang my head in shame and remove.

I played this game last year with my kids during the "whose boat is it" lesson (which thread, by the way, has loads of content relevant to this lesson - check http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,929) and they really enjoyed it...

It requires you to bring a few things from home, and that your kids are in groups

First off, I have a box of classroom stuff that the kids will recognize and know the names of.

1. Print a double list of the items, so that for each item there are 2 slips of paper on which the word is written.

2. Hand out "tickets" of words to each of my students.

3. Hold up each item and ask "Whose ... is this?

4. The students with the corresponding tickets then stand up saying "It's MINE!"

5. The students then use Rock Paper Scissors to "fight" for the item

6. Ask the students again, "Whose ... is this?" - the winner replies "It's mine" and the loser replies "it's his/hers"

7. Hand the item to the winner

8. The group with the most items at the end of the game wins

Hope that can give you all an idea for a non-baaam game for a change ;)

Smiley Sam this is a great game. My students (and me) are getting tired with the same old games and now the weather is getting hot they can barely focus on the screen for more than about 10 mintues. I'm going to use this tomorrow so thanks. I've made flashcards instead of using objects just for ease really. I'll ask random students to choose one from a bag and ask Whose ____ is it?

Edit: I used the student selector dartboard on barryfunenglish. (My kids love and hate this but the girls would never speak otherwise and it adds suspense to most games) The chosen student, S1, picks a card from the bag and asks "Whose ____ is it? Is this yours?" The two students with the same card stand up, play rsp and answer accordingly. I basically used the conversation from the suggested textbook game. Then S1 comes to the screen and throws a dart to elect the next student.
It worked a treat.

the whose song is this thing updated with more modern music. left a couple of classics in for good measure, and added a very brief intro to the grammar / vocab it uses.

Personally I think it's best suited to a motivation / intro section, but I could see it working as a game in one of the first lessons of the chapter.
