Hello, everyone.  I am working with two 6th grade teachers, so often I'm a bit ahead of everyone else.

This post is to go under YBM Book 4, Lesson 6, the book with a picture of the world on the kids on the flying blue thing.  Attached is a presentation of lesson 2, which includes a 5 clues game and a hidden picture game at the end.  I hope some of you may find this useful.

Warmest Regards,

Randall

Please place this post under YBM Book 4 (the book with the picture of the world and the kids on a flying blue thing), Lesson 6.

Attached is a presentation I prepared for Lesson 6, Period 1.  Toward the end of the PowerPoint is a Placing Bets game, an idea I borrowed from Maureen.  Thanks, Maureen for your brilliant ideas and contributions to this forum.  I changed out many of the slides and replaced them with less commonly known jobs.  I edited the original placing bets worksheet as well.  I hope some of you may find this useful.

Warmest Regards,

Randall

And some more stuff for the second lesson. The 'Connect 4' and 'Occupations' games were completely made by other people. I have put them her because they worked very well last year. The 'Charades' game was made by someone else but I changed it up a bit. Tomorrow I will post my 'Meet the World' cool and unusual jobs powerpoint.

This is the powerpoint I made up for 'Unusual Jobs around the World'.

Also I included a song that originaly came from the regular book. You can use this as a 'cloze' exercise' and sing along.

Showing examples of different film genres for Role Play. This PPT isn't lesson-specific.

I tried this for Lesson 5 Story Box role play, and it turned out to be fun. After watching the Story Box video and finishing the short activity, I went over the different film genres using this PPT. I had students name movies that fit under each genre, and I talked about things you find in each genre (For example: wizards and dragons for Fantasy, or ghosts, vampires, and zombies for Horror).

Then I had each group of 5-6 students act out the Story Box scenes in the style of the genre of their choice.

Here's a writing game.  It's really simple, students unscramble the words/sentences and write the answers in their notebooks.  My students sit in groups so we always play in teams - teams that write the answer perfectly, with no spelling or punctuation errors, get a point.  It encourages the students to help one another!

Hi all, just want to say thank you so much for sharing your materials.
I seem to find it hard to get ideas for this lesson!

Thank you :D

I made this song up to go with the lesson.
Title is "What Should I Be When I Grow Up?" to the tune of "He's got the whole world". I explained to the students before the concept of "Grow Up" and they seemed to grasp it. They seemed to really like it as I heard them singing it in the hall after class :)

Bomb/Baseball Game to use as a review for Lesson 6. I created a Baseball diamond on the board and then attached magnets to the player cut outs so they could "round the bases". Wanted to try adding something to the typical bomb game idea, went over pretty well.

I stole the reading game someone posted above, but then ended up changing the sentences completely because my kids are low level. Also added a short intro on what the actions are~
