Giving Directions

Hi,

I actually used this lesson for beginner high school, but it should work with all age groups.
Just create and print some cards that students can draw when they score 5 marks (e.g. other team loses 3 points; you score 2 points etc).
Modify landmarks according to your city to make it more relevant for students :)
Really good response from the class and the co-teachers like that the students do most of the talking.

Students learn the fundamentals of directions (left, right, go straight, stop, etc.) and learn how to use them correctly when speaking English.

I did an activity last week, where I gave the students a starting point in the school and a sheet of directions. They had to follow the directions to find certain rooms in the school and then write down the classroom number.
I won't post the directions as every school is different but the key expressions we used were:
go straight, left, right, first left/right, go up the stairs etc.
A few students struggled but for the most part they did very well and got correct answers.

I create a role play around my directions day this year in camp. Included is the dialogue and a PPT to match.
