This is an Angry Birds bomb game that I re-edited to fit my purposes for the class. I removed all pictures of myself etc. so if you decide to use this it will need a few repairs at the very least. The class really liked it, however, I would recommend adding more surprise penalties. Enjoy!

PPT to introduce the new vocabulary and key sentences. I changed it slightly from what the book lists. The target vocabulary includes "get" but it's meant in terms of "get up." Since get is quite different in meaning from get up, I used the phrase get up instead of get.  Some of the words it may be best to get your c/t to add the Korean translation (specifically "care" and "usually"). Otherwise, this lesson seems pretty straightforward.

Here is another version of the worksheet.  My CT likes for the students to have a bit more room so there are 2 pages (we copy it double sided for the kiddos).  I borrowed some exercises from the worksheet already posted and added one.  Hope it is useful to someone.

Vocab and role play. I am sorry I am late with this. I honestly didn't think I'd be doing anymore of these since I am not being renewed but I want my students to be able to continue role play for the rest of the year in my absence, so here they are. When I have the Korean version (for those of you who teach very low level or alone) I will post it.

I've made a finger race game for Periods 1 and 2 (or whenever really).  I used the pictures from Islander's Intro PPT, so thank you Islander!!!

For anyone who doesn't know (because I know when I first started using the waygook boards I didn't know all the games) a finger race is really simple.  Students work in pairs and race to the opposite end.  They have to say each phrase that's denoted by a picture in English before moving to the next one.  When they meet in the middle they do a round of rock-paper-scissors.  Loser goes back to their start.  Every time they meet they play rock-paper-scissors and so it continues until one player reaches the other end.

Period 1. Avengers theme Look & Listen.

1. Look & Listen (G5L7P1 dialogue). It has an AVENGERS theme. I get the kids to watch the video a couple times and listen carefully. Then I elicit from them any sentences they remember hearing. Print a copy of slide 2 to have in front of you and click on the correct number when a student says it. Click on the Jack in the Box to go back to the main slide. Any order is fine, until they've gotten all the sentences. Works well for any grade.

2. Listen & Do. Using the same dialogue ppt. Click on the image of LOKI in the top right corner of the 2nd slide. That will hyperlink you to the listen and repeat dialogue slides. First we listen to the CD-ROM listen and repeat, then I split the class in half with one half saying the dialogue from one character and the other half saying the dialogue from the other character. Then we switch. I also usually choose 3 or 4 pairs to stand up and perform the dialogue (or volunteers).

Hope you enjoy! The kids always do!

Hey cestaley...

I really loved your avengers practice ppt, so I added even more slides because I make my kids speak A LOT, so I need 12 partner dialogue slides and I wanted them to have control over which dialogue they had to say so I added a page where they pick a number [for practice with large numbers used in time] (like on your first slide for L&L). In the additional slides I added, I added dialogue asking about when he/she does something for more practice with verb changes. I also reformatted it so the background is blue and the characters don't have white backgrounds.

Happy teaching!

Simple survey activity for period 2. I have 24 students, so there are 24 cards, 12 pairs. They have to use "What time do you~?"and "I ~ at ~ o'clock. to find their card match. Everyone must speak to move on to the next person. Just laminate and cut and hand out randomly.

Simple activity for Speak & Read,

Write this chart on two sides of the board.
1.  What time do you get up?
2.  I get up at 7.
3.  I have lunch at 12.
4.  I come home at 3.
5.  I take a shower at 8.
6.  I go to bed at 10.

Divide the class into two teams.  Start with the first person on team 1.  Have them come to the front and roll a dice.  They read the sentence and you mark it out.  Take turns between team 1 and 2.  The first team to mark out all the sentences is the winner.

It's even more fun if you are the head of one team and your co-teacher is the head of the other team.

Go here for grammar points on verb changes do~does, go~goes, etc. It seems that chunjae's worksheets teach this but there's not a lot instruction on it elsewhere but it needs explanation. We just did a whole grammar lesson on it.

Here's a Speed Quiz in which students can either draw, give an action, or speak the clue (additional points for the team).  The game includes bonus words besides the target daily routine vocabulary.

Note: You'll need Flash to run this.  Just compress each separate quiz into a shortcut.

Divide the class into teams.  Students of each team come to the front and seated students should be able to see the clues.  After each clue, the student goes to the back of the line (rotation).  Students sitting down will shout the answers.

I'm doing this for my open class but I would usually do this sort of activity at the end of the unit in place of bomb games which, I feel, are being relied to heavily on.

Here's a clock PPT I found on another site.  It's just a big clock face that you can adjust by the hours, quarters, and minutes.  It should save a lot of clock drawing time.

Also, this lesson seems like it would be perfect for a survey activity (When do you get up?  ect.) and maybe an Omok/5inRow Game icebreaker/game.  I've got my open class during this lesson/unit (I hate calling them Lessons.) so I'll be making and posting some stuff for it.

I made a Sentence Auction game that we used as review at the end of this unit. I found the idea for the game on Dave's ESL Cafe (www.eslcafe.com).

The students were in groups of 5-6, and each group was given $250 dollars.

They bid on sentences, one at a time, and the winning team keeps the sentence.

If they buy a correct sentence they win 3 points.

If they buy an incorrect sentence they lose 3 points.

BUT

Every time we sold a sentence that was incorrect, each group was given 1 minute to correct that sentence by writing it on a whiteboard. The team who bought the sentence was given 5 points if they were able to correct the sentence (-3 points if they could not). All other groups are given 1 point if they were able to write the sentence correctly.

At the end of the game, every $50 the students had left was worth 1 point for their team.

It took about 30 minutes to play using 10 sentences.

I've attached an instructional PPT that I made to explain the game. It also includes the 10 sentences (of which I believe 8 are incorrect in some way). It also includes slides with dollar amounts that incrememt by $5 which I used to keep track of the bids.

The attachment with the "2_" is the same PPT as the "1_" presentation but created with VBA to reduce the number of slides and make things a little easier to use (in my opinion). Use whichever is easier. There are instructions on how to enable VBA and Macros at the end of the presentation so that the PPT functions correctly.

I've also included a file that you can use to print the sentences, and they should be large enough for the students to see if your classroom isn't too large.

The fake money is also attached in a printable format.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Hope it's helpful!
