Grade 5- Lesson 8 Hello? Is Minu there?
Intro Lesson game- Phone Bingo.
Students choose any 3 names on the card.
Teacher should also choose the names to call.

Teacher says , " Hello, this is (your name). Is {a name on the bingo card} there?"
"O" students - "Speaking"
"X" students- "Sorry, you have the wrong number."

This repeats until students have bingo.
Did it with 6th and 5th grade. Its really good.

We've started this lesson as my c/t has chosen to switch the order around to get our students ready for the national test and have an easier lesson for our open class. I've created a very, very basic PPT to use as a vocabulary/key expressions intro. Also, I've used Daejeon's SuperMario template to make a game to use around second or third period. My c/t and I are using this lesson to also brush up on numbers as most of my students are pretty low in that way. The worksheets we're using are ones that I've previously found on Waygook (specifically the phone number wordsearch) but I'll add here so you can use it. I also found a great package of worksheets from a free teachers site that some may find useful. Finally there's a reference sheet showing the numbers and the numbers spelt out.

Edited for grammar and spelling errors.

Comic Strip
« Reply #4 on: June 01, 2012, 12:11:14 pm »
I got my students to do their own comic strip based on the Look and Say dialogue. It enabled them to be creative and use the language in their own context. It took about 20 minutes and the students enjoyed it, we gave prizes to the best ones.

I also went with a comic strip idea and got the students to fill in the dialogue for the telephone conversation.

This is my lesson plan. It requires virtually no preparation.

Presentation:  Introduce the new vocab using the book. Complete the book exercises. (10 mins)

Practice: Split the class into two teams.

Make each team stand in a line. You take one team, your co-teacher the other. Yourself and your co-teacher whisper the phrases into the ear of the first student in line and the students have to whisper it along the line. The last person writes the phrases on a white board and then holds it up. First team to do so correctly gets points. (5 mins) (This works well because it forces every student to say the key phrases at least once.)

1.   Hello.
2.   Is Lee Byung Hun there? (Lee Byung Hun is my go-to example. You can choose whoever you like)
3.   Sorry. You have the wrong number.

Production: Students watch the animal phone video and name animals (5 minutes)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMNW51-RmwU

Students have to make their own animal phones. (7 minutes)

Students then practice the dialogue with their partners-

A: Hello?
B: Hello. Is _______ there?
A: Speaking. Who is this?
B: This is _______.
A: Hi ______.

A: Hello?
B: Hello. Is ___________ there?
A: Sorry. You have the wrong number.
B: I’m sorry.
A: That’s ok.

Hi

I'm pretty sure I found this on the site last year.  Used it again for this lesson and the kids got a kick out of it.

It's a short video of people calling each other looking for a phone number but their phones are animals.

Here is a creat a sentence lesson.  You can slit the class into groups and have them cut out the words to see which group finishes creating the most sentences.

A comic strip for making the students practice writing and to show they understand the proper sequence.

Cryptogram-  You can delete my Cryptogram puzzle and put your own in if you want, They are really quick to make and my name is in my own puzzle so it would be better to change. here is the website.
