There's a lot of material in this lesson in the 2011 National book folder "Lesson 5 - May I Help You?"

A simple game:

-Print and cut out these cards. Give at least 2 per student.
-Tell students to write a number behind each card (between 1 and 50, or 1 and 25 to make it easier)
-Students walk around and meet other students. Rock-paper-scissors
-Loser asks "How much is...?"
-Winner has 3 chances to correctly guess the price (can give a $5 margin of error)
-If guessed correctly -> keep the card

Student with the most cards at the end of round wins.

give 2 cards to each student?
students just walk up and rps?
the loser hold up, lets say that banana card, and asks "how much is this?" or "how much are bananas?"

these kinds of games are great for speaking practice. as long as they follow the rules, haha.

I will start this lesson next week.
It is a good game to practice the dialogue for Lesson 9.
Thank you for your good idea.

Thanks.  The Price Is Right games posted over there look like pretty safe bets for Periods 1 & 2.

To add a bit of variety, I've started to introduce / review / elicit vocab using actions or riddles.  For Period 2, I've made some poems and riddles to elicit the key vocab from Ss (shall do this BEFORE they look at the page).  Some are terrible, for which I apologise, so if you can improve on them PLEASE do.

a)   They are friends of people and friends of bees, they grow in the ground but they are not trees.  We sometimes pick them and give them away, to bring a nice smile and make someone’s day. [flowers]
b)   We take them off before bed, we wear them but not on our head.  When they lose their friends they are so sad, and at the end of the day they smell a bit bad!  [socks]
c)   Threaded across you will find laces, and while wearing them you can walk to places.  You really must not wear them inside, if you bring dirt inside you really must hide.  They come in all colours and shapes, you should look after them well to avoid any scrapes. [shoes]
d)   I use it to eat, but I cannot eat it.  I use it to go places, but I cannot drive it.  I change it for other things I want.  Apple and Samsung must have a lot! [money]
e)   It ends with an S, but it’s really only one thing. It cuts paper and card and meat and string.  [scissors]
f)   In a shop, I go to pay, I get a shock, NOT TODAY!  [expensive]
g)   In a shop, I go to pay, a big smile breaks out, YOU’VE MADE MY DAY! [cheap]
h)   Vitamin C and Vitamin A, I should eat these things every day. Many colours and many tastes, I should gobble them up without any haste. [fruit]

Hey guys, just some things to use for this chapter.

1. a quick gap information activity for pairs: each student has a list of 6 items. one student as the price for 3 of the items, the other student has the prices for the other 3. they practice saying "how much are these ___ ?" "they are ___ thousand won."

2. a ppt with pictures where the students have to make a dialogue. we are going to play in groups. the fastest group to raise their hands and answer correctly gets the points.

3. the usual price is right game. I changed the slides so that everything is plural to practice saying "how much are these ___? they are ___ thousand won."

Here is a really simple handout I made for lesson one. It matches what I got of here for fifth grade. I like them to match. It has vocabulary, the dialogue, and key sentences for the chapter.

Used this PPT this AM..seemed to go over pretty well.  Had a group ask another, "How much is this/are these ____?" with the pics on the PPT.  The second group answered with the price they thought matched.  If they guessed correctly, they got another point; otherwise the asking team got the point.

Co teachers had me make a game card set for each of the remaining lessons from this book (thank you summer camp teachers).  Use as you see fit--time to start giving back a bit more on here.

A pretty basic presentation for this lesson (slight modifications, but not originally my work). Also a connect 4 game, telepathy game and catch-the-words game.

A simple Minesweeper game. In order to choose a  square, teams must ask 'How much is this...?' and And answer 'It's...'
The second game is a Spongebob PPT I adapted. Found the template on here a while back, the kids love it.

Quick worksheet I made for the Part 2, Look and Speak. Fill in the blanks, correct the sentence, and unscramble. Takes up about 10-15 minutes if you have kids role play and write the answers on the board.
