Will versus Going to
Mainly about the main grammar of this lesson. It has a couple of practice questions at the end.

Wow, this is way too difficult for my students. I'm just happy if they can make any sentence at all!

Here is an Unscramble ppt for period 4 fun and fun. Makes it a little easier that writing it out on the board.

I've changed the sentences a little and added two extra ones. When I play the game I do the following.

1) Have about 3 teams of 6 students
2) The kids get 20 seconds or less to figure it out depending on how hard or easy it is to unscramble.
3) In their teams they can do ONLY one of two things (erase or write), and then they pass the board to the next person in their team.
4) So if the sentence is I will ride my bike... First student write I, then passes it to the next student to write will etc. Except the sentence will look like this. I iwll eird ym keib.
5) When we move on to the next round, the second student starts this time and so on...

Hope it helps!

My students are pretty high level. But this was mostly to show them for future simple tense 'will' is not the only option. I realise they will probably not get the correct answers but it's still practice of the key grammar for this lesson. I think if we're bothering to teach them the future simple that includes BOTH "will" and "am going to"

To me the key expressions in this chapter are very contrived and would have been improved by using 'going to' instead of will.

Eh, to each their own.

A couple of simple game ppt's. The first is your standard scrambled words and sentences; the second is a lotto game. I have the kids write down one word from the given six. If their word is the one left remaining they stand up, shout bingo and get one point. The kids seem to enjoy it. have fun!

Does anyone have suggestions for the Reading period for this lesson? (and in general for other reading lessons in this textbook)

My students find the reading exercises super boring but my coteacher wants to stick with the textbook because she thinks they need more reading practice.

I could make my own sentences for them to practice reading that would sound less bland/awkward than the textbook, but they still might find it too boring...

Thanks, Tsunamiblues, for posting the unscramble game!

I modified it a bit and turned it into a Mission Impossible Mystery Box game.

Money = points
Punch = bomb (lose all points)
Dolphin = You get the same thing as the team before you.
Example 1: If team 1 gets $50 and team 2 gets "dolphin," team 2 will get $50 too because of the dolphin.
Example 2: If team 1 gets "punch" and team 2 gets "dolphin," team 2 will get "punch" too and lose all their points too because of the dolphin.
Quirky, I know ^^.

The last slide has all the materials for easy cut and paste action ;). Feel free to further modify!

I hope it's useful ^^. My students seemed to like it.

Happy teaching!
Sarah

Also, here's a simple mario game for future tense. It practices conjugating "he, she, they, we, and I" as well.

=),

So I figure it's about time I add a little to the mix.  I've taken a Starcraft template made by Shane from Daejeon, used a lot of the images from other ppts in this thread (thank you), and added new ones.  I've added some translate, translate and spell, role play, and mixed them with the more common "bomb" game questions for a little variety.  I think this will go over well for the last period.  Hope it helps!

We played a lottery game in my class today that worked pretty well for both speaking and writing practice.

We wrote 4 phrases on the board (we used water the plants, earn an allowance, feed the dog, and jump rope). The students had to write each phrase on their lotto line. Then we called on students to help pick the winning lottery ticket. They had to give their choice as an "I will" sentence.

The worksheet included is for 5 lotto games. We started out with practicing "I will_____" for the first and second round and then changed it to "I will earn an allowance on ________" and "I will ___________ on Sundays". We also changed around the target phrases.

We give stickers for our reward system and told the students that they could have a sticker for each line they won, which could have contributed to its success.

Also, we found that the game went a lot smoother when we only had the students write one round at a time. It kept everyone motivated and moving at the same pace.

good luck!

A flick game board. You can have the students use a coin or a paper clip.

Basic intro ppt modified from another post with pass the ball at the end. The music is mixed with Muppets and Batman.

zip of the pictures from the book.

I used these for the first period.

I used this on day4 (writing) to review day 3 (reading).

Make one copy for each team and cut down the middle and into strips.  I divided the class into 6 teams and gave each team a set.  They had to work together to match the first part of the sentence with the last part.
