A sliver of material for this sliver of a lesson:

- Worksheet with dialogs and, because the vocabulary is so slim and useless, conjugation of past tense verbs, and a sentence-writing activity
- A PPT introducing the past tense
- A more complex PPT introducing more irregular past tense verbs
- Top 5 game - will have students give their answers in (very awkward) past-tense sentences
- Cryptic worksheet, taken from the PPT in last year's thread

Practice ppt for the key phrases. You'll have to add a few photos, as the ones I had in there were of me and my family :)

Someone posted this song in the 5th grade Lesson 9 (I visited Dokdo) of the same book series. I'm reposting the song here and including a worksheet I made to fill in the blanks of the lyrics.

This song is also good to use. I find that my 6th Grade classes enjoy listening and singing along with this song even though the quality is terrible. Beats those songs on the Textbook DVD anyway.

Enjoy.

Here is a really simple handout I made for lesson one. It matches what I got of here for fifth grade. I like them to match. It has vocabulary, the dialogue, and key sentences for the chapter.

Past Tense Mastermind Game

This game is similar to the classic Mastermind board game with the colored pegs for those familiar. The PPT is just to explain the rules and give an example of how the game is played. From there you can take the game to the board or pair/group your kids up (though I've not tried that).

I got an awesome angry birds game off here and remade it for this chapter. I printed out color copies of the birds, cut them out and laminated them. Then I put on magnets. They enjoyed seeing what birds they had on the board. Whoever has the most birds wins. I made the game pretty simple because I have really low level kids. I hope you enjoy it as much as my kids do. I added the word doc that I printed the birds from!

Here is a review my CT and I made for a present and past tense review.
I haven't printed it yet, so I hope the margins are OK...
Later on I plan to erase the English and test them on it.

I modified the Family Fortunes / Top 5 game and added lots of irregular past tense questions and answers.  Students will be in groups of 4 with whiteboards, and have to guess the most popular answer by writing it on their board, and then saying it together.  Teams will lose a point for bad spelling or grammar.  If teams guess an answer that isn't one of the given answers, they can still get a point (providing that it's perfect spelling and grammar).

We're only playing this for 15-20 minutes, so I have only 7 questions.  You might need to add more.

I cannot figure out what the answer for number 5 on the cryptic worksheet is...  I ate.... what???? My students can't figure it out either. What's the answer?!

The answer is Ramen - Korean pronounce it Lamyun - so its Lamb plus n. "Laam-N"

How many sets of the birds do you need to make for this game?
I would like to play this game with my students this week.  I think they'd love it!

Reading board game - Baskin Robbins 31

I've played this reading board game with both my 5th and 6th graders and they all really liked it.
Directions are in Korean to help the students but I'll explain it to you.  Basically, students play
rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first.  The winner can read one, two, or three sentences.
Then it goes to the next person who can again, read one, two, or three sentences. It continues
until someone reaches the end. Whoever lands on the 31 spot loses and the winner writes their
name in the "Round 1" blank. They can then play a second round.

I hope this is of some help.  :)
