Music Expressions, giving opinions
« on: June 18, 2012, 02:52:38 PM »
This is a lesson on music and music expressions, which I found on here months ago. I cant find it anymore, but it was such a good class that I'm reposting it. I added a PPT to go along with it.

First I started off the class asking how often do you listen to music, favourite kinds of music and favouite bands or singers. I was surprised by how many said things other than K-pop.

Then I go through the slides and ask them questions, do you think it's fast or slow? What instruments does it use, where does it come from and how old is it, and who is it popular with? I asked questions and got them to guess instead of just force feeding them the information, which would be boring.

Then they do the worksheet, matching the expressions to their meanings.

Then we listen to the music http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE0B58A93ED7DF14E one minute for each piece and they give them a mark of 1-10

then they have to make a sentence for each and try and use the expressions

then at the end they can have a conversation "what do you think of...." I (don't) like it because..."

Simple, but they enjoyed it.

I did this with grade 3s because I thought the expressions would be too complicated for 1-2

This is such a great idea! I think I'll use this for a writing activity.
