Grade 6 - Lesson 9: Who's Calling, Please? 대교 (Daegyo)
« on: June 26, 2012, 02:01:00 PM »
For the introduction, I combined some PowerPoints I found for last year's 5th grade lesson "Is Peter There?" and I changed some things to match this topic a little better.  Thank you to the original posters.

I also made a Sonic game.

Funny motivation video of baby trying to talk on the phone:

Also attached a worksheet that has fill-in-the-blank dialogues (two versions are there to just increase the diversity a bit, #2 is from Part 2 of Lesson 9) that the students can perform. They can choose from the box or pick their own to make it funny or whatever. Dialogue taken from lpaek's banana phone game (thanks!)

Here's a Time Word/Sentence Unscramble for vocabulary and sentences from Lesson 9.

Sorry to anyone who could have used this sooner. We just started Lesson 9 this week.

Just a simple ppt I made with 5 slides of fill-in the blanks with people/characters they know.  The last one is almost all fill-in-the-blank for them to create a phone conversation with their partner and share with the class. Super simple, quick, a bit for the class, and based entirely on this specific chapter and book.

guessing game to practice "We'll ____. Can you join us?"  Clicking on the question mark reveals the correct answer.

This video  may work as a general warm-up conversation, depending on the students:

This video is good for reviewing the lesson:

A short PowerPoint I adapted to go with the worksheet. Thanks for the dialogues, keepemgreen!
Also, I got the mp3 on the slideshow from: http://www.learning-english-online.net/skills/speaking/dialogues/talking-on-the-phone/

Unscramble sentences activity. Works for passing dictation and as an individual activity for the more rowdy classes.

I have a lot of kids who have just don't speak (English) no matter how cute and funny I try to make speaking activities. This is pair-reading activity and it might work well for you if you have bunch of these really low-level kids in one class. (The advanced students were eye-rolling like crazy, though.) I printed cards of matching characters and distributed them randomly. Students with matching cards read together.

I got this from my bf who taught high school before, but I used it today and the kids were really interested.

Its about text shortcuts we use in English. There are some not included which I just wrote on the board and we talked about. These included OMG/ OMGYG(oh my God you guys!) IDK? (I don't know?) NP (No problem) etc.

Here's a Hangman game I built mid-Bolaven and have tried uploading several times since then, but my work computer was slow sending, and I'd give up 20-30 minutes after clicking send when it still hadn't sent.

Nothing too exciting, but maybe time-saving for you. As a writing activity I created a low-level fill in the blanks worksheet. For many of my students this was enough (lots of low level ones), but for the few students who found this easy I also created a completely blank version where they could draw their own pictures and create their own scenario.
