Key phrases Practice ppt
. Again, you'll have to put in photos for the last 4 slides, as I usually use my friends and family and don't want to share that all around ^^
I have also attached a
Deal or No Deal game
for this lesson.
Thank you to the original creator of the game
, I only changed the content of the slides. Same as above, you need to add a few photos, as I had personal ones in there. I also deleted the part that says, "Hello, may I speak to the students please?" because it will take too much time and is not the focus of this lesson.
Just added a
Super Mario Game
,
thanks to the original creator
! Again, you'll need to add a few photos, change the slide about where the teacher is from. Some of the questions pertain to the text on p. 142, so if you don't cover that, you'll have to change those few questions as well.
Gangnam Style game
. Thanks to the creator of the template!

A handout and blazing pens. By the way, my students pointed out that I tend to make mistakes on the blazing pens ppt. So double check my work!

Here is a really simple handout I made for lesson one. It matches what I got of here for fifth grade. I like them to match. It has vocabulary, the dialogue, and key sentences for the chapter.

Using the "I'm going to go to Disney World" 1987 commercial for quick intro/motivation.

Also will follow up with new one,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=_bY75hnNzyk
to explain how "I'm going to" is different than "I will." Decided/determined action

Soldiers vs. Ninjas Speaking Game
Directions in the PPT. Good for about 8-10 students at a time. Thanks for the original creator of the Soldiers vs. Ninjas idea. My kids love it!

hey guys here are some worksheets.
"11.4 basic" is a low-level worksheet. They have to change sentences using "will" to "to be going to" (for example, I will run ---> I am going to run)
"calendar" is an intermediate worksheet. I have made up a Smith Family Calendar with events on certain days. The students have to answer 10 questions about the Smiths plans (for example, what is John Smith going to do on October 1? ----> He is going to take a test)
Just a heads up, I created the "calendar" file using Excel 2007 but as you guys know, that cannot be uploaded. I hope the 97-2003 version is satisfactory.
I hope the worksheets are useful!

I made some cards to go along with the game for sentences that is in the back of the book. They include just cards with sentences on them. Yawn. Once again, the imagination of the YBM writers gives me nothing fun.
So I paired the sentences with pictures. For each sentence, there is a picture. The kids have to choose one sentence per round and the person whose turn it is to reveal the sentence has to reveal the pictures from the deck until someone spots the one that depicts the sentence. My class had fun doing this, probably because I used cartoons.

The animation at the beginning of this chapter gave me an idea for a group activity. I figured I would give the students some social problems to solve, by using the future tense to layout their plans. This is a task based learning activity. I hope you can use it!

So, nowhere could I find the baduk game board for part 2 of this lesson. Not in the book or CD.
My co-teacher even looked for me. So I just made one from the pictures on the CD. I hope
this is helpful for someone. I put two to a sheet, laminated them, and cut them in half to save
resources. The students can use dry erase markers and I gave each team a paperclip to flick.

Reading Clues Game
Have students look at the slide and guess who the celebrity is (Korean celebs). If they need an extra clue, have them read a clue then click the box to reveal a portion of the picture of the celeb.

The StoryLand in the book is horrific even by the standards of this book. I scrapped it and wrote up a new story using the Anansi and Turtle story as seen in this video:
http://youtu.be/jsqo9v_Aoow
The video doesn't really use the target language, but the PowerPoint does. Take that for whatever you like.
My 6th graders loved the story and were pretty much captivated by the video, which does have a lot of good basic English.

Here is a board game I made as a speaking activity. Pretty self explanatory~ the students say both the question and the answer when they land on a spot. The question depends on the color of the square and is explained on the board. The happy and sad face spots corresponds to the red and blue cards. I drew faces on the back. These are small rewards or punishments depending on the nature of the face. The little Wingdings squares are the game pieces. Haven't tried out this game in particular but my CT used a similar one for fifth grade and I have never seen those kids so motivated and eager to speak. Even my worst classes who usually just scream and run around like animals sat down and played this game (somewhat) quietly. If there are any mistakes, let me know. I was very tired when I made this. Also I am aware that the game cards are not lined up perfectly. I don't care.^^ (It's too much of a hassle to change some things on Korean Word.)

And since I'm already on here, here's a Powerpoint for the listening part of the book, and some speaking slides after that which can be used as a warm-up/review by themselves. AND a Baskin Robbins game. (Might be a good idea to change the number of questions from 31 to a higher number since they usually figure out how to win.) Two kids play and we let the winner challenge one of us for an extra stamp.
