3. fun and fun 1 print: I have a portable white board at my school. i used that for the BIG game board. i printed the pictures, copied the map in fun and fun 1, and used it to check answers with my students.

This is an activity used in a class of 30. Groups of 3 or 4 students are given a copy of the map. The hints are posted on the wall outside the classroom. Two students from each group go outside the classroom to the hints, memorize one, come back into the class room, and tell the students sitting down the directions to the building. Once a student comes back into the classroom, they must change places with a student sitting down and wait while the other students go to memorize a hint. The whole activity takes between 15 and 20 minutes.

Took a couple different lessons a turned them into one. Got a map from MES-English that I changed around a bit and a directions lesson plan I found on here and turned it in to something I could use in my classes. My students are pretty high level, so if your students are at a lower level you may have to tweak it around to fit your needs.

I made a map that you can change to your liking or use for another game.

This game can be a two part game. First part, the teacher gives directions and the students have to answer where they are going. Points can be based on individual or team. Second part is small group work. One student now practices giving directions while the other 3 answer where they are going. Students will keep track of their own points. If you feel ambitious, you can cut out cars for markers.

Here's a first day power point I have put together. It covers our key phrases very quickly as well as location vocabulary. I will probably make another power point for later in the lesson but haven't done so yet. I have, however, put together some worksheets for the lesson. There are four worksheets total. The first is a 41 word word-search. The second page is simple location identification as well as making a simple sentence. The third worksheet looks at a street view and the students must write in the location of a place in relation to another place on the map. The fourth worksheet is basically making conversations by filling in the blank with words on the top of the sheet. Worksheets 2-4 are compiled from my finds in the Side by Side series. Some of the pictures look really light in the computer version. All pictures are modified in brightness to work well with my printer and the school's copy machine. Try printing them first to see how they look from your printer. You may have to adjust the settings on the graphics for optimal printing. Hope you all enjoy what I've put together so far. Let me know what you think!

*Update: Upon printing these worksheets for the entire fifth grade, I came to find out that the original one was missing 12 words because it had gotten cut off upon transferring to the word document. Please accept my apologies if you are one of the five people who downloaded it. You'll need to download it once again. For those of you who didn't download it yet, the last worksheet has been fixed so it should not throw your students for a loop when they can't find the word zoo... and 11 others. Cheers!

Made this game from scratch. Took me forever and I didn't think it was very good but my students have loved it . So I thought I would share it. It is far from perfect so please feel free to adjust and adapt it , especially the pictures of me!

I downloaded this template from the game bank and then edited it for our lesson's game. The template was blank and perhaps created for another purpose. However, I thought the car race would be a cool game for this lesson. So, I added maps, questions and answers, based on the lesson's key expressions and vocabulary (see first slide for more details). My students really enjoyed it. Please note this lesson works best after the role play exercises or where the students have practiced using the language. We always do role plays in our class for day one. We're on a block schedule (80 mins) and our day 1 class goes as follow: introduction to key expressions and vocabulary (listen and repeat), role play exercises, game, and then worksheet (homework). Game will also work well for day 2 review game.
