Here's a simple powerpoint for a basic vocabulary review. My students all responded well when I used this.

If you're students are able to, try to get them to repeat the word and then discuss it by relating the words to their lives.

For example:
TEACHER: "Amaze."
STUDENTS: "Amaze."
TEACHER: "What does the word 'amaze' mean?"
STUDENT #1: "It's 'surprise' and 'happy' together."

I liked it when my students explained the words with other simple English words instead of translating it. I asked them what the girl in the PPT was proud of, what the mom was proud of, and then what THEY were proud of (regarding themselves or others). Basically, if you can relate the PPT to them or the things that they use and love (for inventions), then the class gets into a simple review.

Here is a PPT story I made about George Washington. It uses similar language to the Yi Sunsin story from the book (my students are very low level). The kids liked (or at least "ooooooh"ed) when I made connections to their own heroes - Washington, DC = Seoul; Washington is president like Lee Myung-Bak; GW was the first president and Obama is the 44th; Washington was a general like Yi Sunsin, etc. Hope you find it useful!

Here is something I came up with for a speaking, listening, and writing activity.

I made a word doc with links to videos about artists and inventions. I asked the students questions about the artists (Who were they? What did they do/make?). For the inventions portion, I also have links and a hand-out.
The kids really liked the videos for the inventions.

Did this for Meet the World. Made a fun little guessing game out of it (sorry for the use of the stereotyped pics, meant them as hints for the students). Students like it well enough, especially when you get to like Russia, and had fun explaining Pig Latin

- introduction of past tense
- past tense verbs from the lesson, together with hangeul.
- table with all past tense verbs together with their hangeul equivalent (for note taking or drilling)

I took the liberty of saving this game in PPT format. It was really easy, I just downloaded open office, opened the odt file, and then clicked "save as" and "powerpoint 1997-2003 PPT".

here's a soccer game for period 5

you'll need to print a soccer ball for each team, with some magnet-action for each...

draw a soccer field on the board....line the balls up along the center line...

it's marker and white board for each team, race to write a sentence style...

the winner of each round moves their ball 2 spaces toward the net they're trying to score on....
the losers have their ball moved one space toward their own goal.....damn, son!

watch out for that foul, now...

How do you set it up when you have more students than words in the sentence? I have 25 kids in my classes, wondering how to organize the turns/rounds, otherwise, the same 4 people will only participate most likely. Suggestions?

My partner teacher & I made an entire period-long lesson on "Meet the World" section. We ditched the textbook resource CD, and scourged the internet for relevant/profound stuff to use for our Grade 6s. I believe the only item not yet on this particular thread is the "Where the Hell is Matt" series.

The video gave way for great discussions and reviews of names, family members, numbers in English, time (days, months, etc.), and some current events on the news (some Social Studies ties). Questions we posed to them were things like "How many countries did Matt visit in this video?" and "How is Matt able to travel to _(Insert Number Here)___ countries? How is he able to pay for it?". The final question we posed to them was "What message does his videos say about the world?" Some classes were more curious than others and that took us to his main website's About section, and most kids were engaged while we quickly browsed it.

This lesson did require some heavy translating on my co-teacher's part, and I am thankful that she is as proficient as she is :)

My co-t and I structured the lessons around these two patterns:

(1) What did he/she/name do?
He/She/Name (past tense)thing.

E.g. What did King Sejong do?
King Sejong/He (made) hangeul

(2) Who (past tense) (thing)?
(Name) (past tense) (thing).

e.g. Who (made) (hangeul)?
(King Sejong) (made) (hangeul)

The KeyWordsTL ppt was adapted from another post. The worksheet is centered around these two patterns and the names and inventions in the textbook, and other people/inventions the students would know.

We also reviewed the past tense of previous verbs they've learnt (or should know by now) plus the new ones introduced in the textbook.
