Dialog with key expressions.

Games: How much $ speed, up & down - you decide how much an item is and tell students if they need to go up or down (like price is right), Students decide if they want unknown item - I'll take it/It's too expensive.

Delete or change slides 76 and 77 to your picture.

Market slide on 77 - I brought in a bunch of clothes and played a bomb game.  Teams did role play for $ amounts.  Somewhat hectic but can be a lot of fun.

Here are some materials I prepared for the various units.

I adjusted a Price is Right game to use language from the chapter. Went with dollars, because I thought "thousand" would be hard for the students. I'm planning to print out 5 dollar bills so we can actually exchange money.

I made a Battleship game for this lesson.  You'll have to pre-teach thousand and ten thousand, or you could change the prices to dollars/pounds.

I made and used these as part of a listening and motivation activity near the end of lesson 11.  But you can use them at anytime.

There are riddles of items that students can guess and earn points for. They are all items that can be found in the store. I didn't include an answer key as they are really easy to guess. However, if needed, please let me know.

I basically, read them aloud and had students guess the item.

Here's a quick writting worksheet and a powerpoint to go along with it.  It goes over a lot of the key sentences of this chapter and Korean money in English.

Simple "Guess What's Missing" type PPT with only key phrases and vocabulary. The first few slides are easy, then they get a little harder as more vocabulary gets added to the mix. At the very end of the PPT are some role-playing exercises using the pictures from the guessing game to help the students make the sentences without having to read them. Enjoy!

G6 L11 P1 - I'm Looking for a Shirt - Flying Money Game
« Reply #15 on: November 12, 2013, 02:22:10 PM »
Here is a game I adapted from someone else's ppt.  READ CAREFULLY.

It's called FLYING MONEY.
It takes 5 minutes to explain and do the example and another 5 minutes to play.

1) First, tell students to draw a box anywhere on page 157 of their textbook.

2) Explain to the students that they will go shopping and they need money from their parents.  The flying money is their allowance.

3) There are 6 items that the students must TRY to buy.

4) They must buy items that they have enough money for and say, "Okay, I'll take it!"
OR
pass on items that are too expensive and say, "It's too expensive."
(NOTE for Teachers: 5 of the items are affordable and only one of the items is too expensive for them to buy)

5) Do the first one as an example together:
Example:
Students say: "I like this shirt.  How much is it?"
In the next screen there will be flying money from their parents into their bank account.
4 one-thousand won bills will fly across the screen.
The next screen shows the shirt with a price tag of W3,000. Teacher says,"It's W3,000"
Because their parents gave them 4,000 won, the. can buy the shirt by saying, "Okay, I'll take it!" and now they have W1,000 remaining in the bank.

Continue in the same way with the remaining items. (The money for the doll that is too expensive is still in the bank [W8,000]  AND the shirt example is included in the final total.)

The students should use page 157 in their book as scratch paper.  Give time to add up the remaining money in the bank and write the total in the box that they drew at the beginning of class.  When everyone has finished writing their guess/answers, they should put their pencils in their pencilcases (so the don't try to cheat and change their answer.)  The last slide shows the totals and the answer.

I gave vitamin C to the students who got the right answer.  You can do as you please.

G6 L11 P2 - I'm Looking for a Shirt - Open Market Game
« Reply #16 on: November 20, 2013, 03:39:31 PM »
Open Market Game - Lesson 11 Period 2 'Talk and Play'

This is basically an extended version of what is already in the book and takes 20 minutes to execute ( 5 minutes to explain and show examples/ practice dialog, 5 minutes for the girls to shop, 5 minutes for the boys to shop, and 5 minutes to do one-on-one dialogs at the end.

Today we are going to play a market game and you have a chance to win pepero.

Directions
Look at the table at the bottom of page 159.  There are six items. What are they?
(shirt, mirror, umbrella, comic book, cap, belt)
The next column is says my price.  You should think about the right price and write that price in the my price column next to the item.  The price range is W100 - W9,900 and all items must be a DIFFERENT PRICE. (Walk around an check while the students are writing their own price.)

1) DIALOG: Boys start and say, "May I help you?"
                  Girls: Yes, I'm looking for a ________.
                  Boys: How about this ______?
Girls: I like it.  How much is it?
                  Boy: It's _______ won.
Girls: Okay, I'll take it (if the boys item is less than their own) OR
It's too expensive (if the boys item is more than their own

The students should write their friend's price AND name in the second column.
The students should write an O if they take the item or X if it's too expensive in the third column.

2) When the market opens in Round 1, all the girls will stand up and go to the middle of the classroom with their textbook and pencil.  The Market will be open for 4 minutes.  Girls are shoppers and boys are clerks. The girls will do the dialog with 6 different boys. Only the girls write during Round 1.

3) After 4 minutes the girls will sit down and the boys will go to the center.
Girls will be the clerk and boys will be the shoppers.  They do the dialog and boy write.
After 4 minutes, the boys will sit down.

4) LetÂ’s have some students do a role-plays.  We will choose a student number.  That student is the shopper and look in their book who they asked about a certain item.   First student should do the role play with the name they wrote down for that item.
Their classmate who they wrote down is the clerk.  They do the dialog.
The teacher made his/her own price list.
The average of the clerk's item price and the teachers item price is calculated on the whiteboard for everyone to see.
The student who has that price or closest under gets a pepero.

Judging from the lack of posts, I might be the only one still using this book....I made a jigsaw information activity for Period 4, I'm hoping it will be of some use to someone! It's inspired by an activity someone posted for another of the sixth grade textbooks.

I haven't played it yet, but I'm aiming for it to take about around 15 minutes, the rest of the lesson will be a Halloween activity.

DO NOT LET THEM OPEN THEIR BOOKS BEFORE THIS ACTIVITY!

My students are in groups of four, they each go to a corner where I have placed the sentences from Let's Read. They have two minutes to memorise, then will come back and share with their groups, and together fill in the blanks in the journal worksheet. Then, hand their sheet to another team to check the answers.

I have hand written the worksheet, to give it a more real journal feel, so I've just attached a picture. At my visiting school I tried this for another chapter with a smaller class where I gave them no worksheet, they just had to remember the entire sentence. They are quite high level, and a very small class so it worked well. At my main school, the level is a little lower and the classes are around 25 students, so instead I've made a gap fill activity, as it's easier to complete and control.

Hope someone can use this!^^

Here is a simple Price is Right game. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, each team has to guess the price of the item shown. The team that is the closest to the actual price without going over gets a point.

Been awhile since I've shared.  I made a telepathy game.  I gave the students a blank piece of paper with photos and in teams they had to identify the vocab words first, then played as a writing game.
