Very basic ppt reviewing the key words and expressions on the first page of the chapter.

I plan to have each team write their answer on white boards, giving each correct answer one point.  The team with the most points wins.

OK, I decided to do an opinion lesson with some famous people and movies.

I'm hoping it'll get their attention more than Tom Sawyer will...

Maybe? As an opening video...? I mean, it's got the word Sawyer in it and it's pretty funny.

Here's a whole bunch of PPTs and Worksheets that I've done for the lesson. There's a What do you know about ~? PPT as an intro for the lesson (since I couldn't find anything else worthwhile.) There's new words and sentences. There's a Plants versus Zombies game. My students are kinda low level so I have adjectives for the game (and really for the rest of the lesson). I just printed them out, cut them up and taped them in front of the classroom for my students to refer to. I have battleship game and PPT with the instructions. (Thank you plaguemonkey for the template!) Finally I have a Writing worksheet. Pretty simple. They just draw a friend in their class and write about them using the key expressions.

I hope this is useful to someone. Good luck with this lesson because it's a doozey.

I also decided to have famous people.
This is pass-the-ball game for students.
Students will be divided into groups of 4.
then more people will get a chance to speak.

Hey all,

Just created this homework worksheet. The layout is courtesy of another waygookan, I just changed the content to fit this lesson. Have a great day.

Strange Lesson. For Story B I am going to do at least a minute or two of Bob McFerrin's
'Don't Worry Be Happy" the link below has the lyrics.

Then the book stuff besides the game.

And I made these 24 famous people open office docs. First I will review the people on in a PPT and ask for the students about any information about the people they have. Then I will teach them how to ask, "Am I a man/woman? Am I Korean/American" etc. Suggest putting a pic of yourself in there too.  After the students put their heads down I will give them a card, and they will walk around the room with the card on their heads asking one person only one question at a time trying to figure out who they are. Maybe do it a second time too.

For the last part, when the students figure out who they are they will come and line up and in pairs I will give them a My Land game which is the same as in the book but I made by cutting out the faces from sets 1 and 3, pasting them to a paper with numbers next to the faces along with points for the phrases "Don't Worry" "Cheer up" and "be happy"  and drawing spaces around everything to make their spaces. When the students land on a space they have to say at least 2 sentences about the person or no points. Winners when time runs out get prizes.

What a horrible lesson to teach?  >:(

Here's a PPT I made of 16 famous people.
Divide class into 3 or 4 teams.
1 students from each team faces the class (i.e.) they can't see the screen.
Their team must describe the person on the screen using adjectives and facts about the person.
Could work well, could be a disaster!

I used the Plants vs Zombies game for my final class for this chapter and managed to have the best class so far with this difficult chapter. It wasn't so much the game that was successful as the exercise before it.

Before you show them the game, review adjectives with them first, using a PPT, or flashcards, whatever you used earlier in the chapter.

Afterwards, divide the students into groups of 4 or 5, mixed as boys and girls. Use the six nouns on the game menu screen. Students first write about themselves. Then, using the nouns, they can write about each other. You will have to modify the grammar a little from that on the game menu screen, for example, "is," to "am" and "are." They enjoyed writing about one another and then of course you can have everybody read sentences or just one person from each group, depending on your class size and their discipline.

My classes are usually very restless but they stayed quite calm through this one. Afterwards they can play the game.

Fun with the script.  Dasom's not that bright.

I have the students repeat the phrases "I think she was/I think he was" after telling them about the Little Engine That Could.

Game 1: Eye Spy.  Page 187 in text.  Students have to figure out the expression from the blown up eye clue.

Game 2: Reading game with some fun hidden pictures.  E.g. Student reads: "I think it is interesting."  Reveal a picture of poop.  I then make a big deal asking if that's really true.

Harry Potter Bomb game.  Thanks to the creator.

What a terrible lesson.

Game 1 - Mystery Box (I sorta did a review ppt to elicit sentences from them before but i pretty much let them get away with saying any sentence that started with "I think..."

Game 2 - Trivia + Blazing Pens (Trivia is just random but my kids really liked it. i gave them mini boards in pairs and let them write the letter but you could do it verbally by making them read the answer choices starting with "I think...") I didn't have time to do the blazing pens part in any of my classes so i can't tell you how that will go xD

Here are some lesson plans + PPt's I used for this lesson.

You won't find any games here.
I don't like playing games with the students, as games
offer no educational value.

There is a lot of vocab for them to memorize here and sentence drilling.

I'm almost done with the lesson and these kids have memorized just about everything I've taught them so far.

Hope these help you out somehow ^^

Review of some key expressions.

Worry!/Don't worry.  Cheer up! - Students guess if the next slide is bad to which they say: "Worry!" or good and say: "Don't worry.  Cheer up."  If they're right i give them a reward.  Slides pretty obvious.  Change the last slide to your picture if you want the kids to laugh.

I am going to try this game tomorrow with my 6th graders, since this game actually requires them to get up and move I am curious what kind of outcome I will get.

This lesson is awful. It doesn't help that exams are over and the students just don't care anymore, but we are still made to finish the book >:(

Anyway, I couldn't find a good video about facts vs. opinions or anything like that, so what I decided to do as a motivation was find a video from a song that was popular when I was in 6th grade. I told my classes that it was popular in the USA (where I'm from) when I was their age, and I wanted to know their opinions about it. I made sure to tell them that if they couldn't understand all the words, it was ok, but to try. Then, after we watched the music video, I asked for their opinions of either the song or the video, using "I think~." It seemed to go over well enough, and they got to hear a song that they never would have heard otherwise :P

I used this for the 3rd period of the book, so they had already been introduced to the key expressions.

I used a powerpoint of random facts as motivation to start this chapter. The format was What do you know about ________? The next slide would have a fact and students could raise their hand if they thought it was true or false. If the fact was false, the next slide is the correct fact.

They seemed to enjoy it. I also did my best to fact check the facts so that  they were in fact accurate. :)

Even still because these are absolutes, I will add the exceptions:
slide 4: refers to NATURALLY occurring colors.
slide 8: cows can be specially trained to walk down stairs, but the average one does not.
slide 13: Honey that was found in King Tut's tomb is still edible, but that was the oldest account I could find.
slide 30: If they ask, I guess he was often using them as drumsticks.
I think that's about it!
