fun with Nintendo (Emulator and ROMS)
« on: July 24, 2012, 06:33:59 PM »
I have a total of 4/15 students that actually come to my camp so tomorrow I decided to suprise them with a nintendo gaming day/ lesson

For this I am bringing in my Wii with a few classic games alreadyt installed in it (Super Mario Bros. / Mario Party / and Mario Galaxy)

For those of us who don't have a video console, I have posted a file that let's you play ANY classic nitendo game on your PC desktop.
The emulator for the NES and SNES is easy to find and easy to play on the computer ...just simply using assigned keyboard keys (you can change the joystick settings in the options)

We start with a short lesson on Video Games (PPT  found off waygook...not my own PPT)
Then we play "Super Mario Galaxy Game - Who am I?" -- Where students have to guess the names of some famous (and not so famous) nintendo characters.

Poster work Activity: Students must design their own video game with characters

Then I Let them have free time trying out the games I brought both on wii and on the emulator

Posted below is a NES (original Nintendo) Emulator and a SNES (Super Nintendo) Emulator that will let you play games on your PC. Under the file marked: NES GAMES and SNES GAMES respectively are some sample games Ive included. Open the emulator then under file <Load ...choose the game you want to play. Its that simple.

**This file is for WIndows PC only. Sorry but I don't have a emulator for Mac available. You can download a MAC emulator easily enough by googling it.***

To download more different games (called ROMS) go here:

Choose the system you want to download games for.
Then choose your game.

unfortunately with emulators the controls are best played with one player. You can program some emulator controls for two players but that consists of both players using the keyboard at the same time which can be hard.
I only download one player games (or if multiplayer...have them take turns) You can program the controls to any button on the keyboard. Check out the attach pics below on info on how to change them on the NES emulator.

The other option is to get a NES USB controller but you'll have to buy those online. I've never seen them in retail stores.

This will be nice for my small classes.  I have three classes with 6 or less students so this would be cool for the last five minutes or so of class.  The majority of my small classes are boys so they will enjoy this the most, this would also be a great carrot at the end of the stick.
