Hi there,
I was wondering if there was a video which accompanied the 'wolverine' ppt?
I couldn't find anything on youtube.
Thanks

Here is a Ppt. I doctored to fit this chapter, I hope it helps... probably not for the first period, this one covers the expressions, What did you do? What did you do there? And How was your weekend... well, kinda a review for the 4th maybe...

Ok, also, if anyone has any good reading activities I can do in my class, please let me know! My ct is super picky and is never happy with what I find and prepare... thank you!!

Here's a worksheet I made for the chapter.  It includes key words and phrases, changing verbs to past tense, and unscrambling sentences.

Hope this helps you guys out.

Dialog with key expressions.

Games: speed, I spy, Students have fun seeing various things they bought, Students have fun deciding what kind of weekend they had (pictures make it obvious).  Also missing dialog.

Delete slides 68 and 97 or change to your picture.

Here in my vocabulary (spelling included) and key expressions Power Point for this lesson. I use a particular font, which I've embedded in the PPT--hence the large file size. There is also practice on using past tense verbs, as well as using the key expressions of the lesson.

I hope this will be helpful for you.

I used this song for motivation.  The kids really liked this video.

I used this song as an intro to the lesson.

P1 Book Line Bingo plus scanned card game images-for anyone doing the unit one book game activity. Teaches the phrasal past tense verbs first, then in the pattern and then shows the game instructions. There are two lots of game instructions as co wanted the students to take the cards away, not turn them over. Her reasoning is that it is more clear to the students. For those turning, that's there as well. The scanned images are at the end for general use.

Reading/flashcard powerpoint game for "Speak & Read", session 4 (p162).

I find the Speak & Read bits to be pretty boring and basic - just read six short sentences and that's it. This makes it a bit more fun and educational. I stole the idea from somewhere else on here: basically, they read the objective sentences, then they have to repeat the sentences with pieces covered up. Eventually they reach Level 1,000,000 where the whole sentence is covered :)

In this versions I added Level 10,000,000 which is just Level 1,000,000 with the slides in a different order - I wanted to make sure they weren't just memorising the order of the sounds, but actually were seeing the picture & making a judgement about what to say.

Just a heads up - there is a lot of great material and videos from the old book. Follow this link. You may need to tweak some of the phrasing to suit the new books but the language is very similar.

http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,992.0.html

Also, here's a wonderful ppt about past tense made by foreverJ. http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,2781.msg25781.html#msg25781 Again, some tweaking may be needed but it's excellent and in English and Korean.

I will be playing a 'mime' game with my students, using the phrases from the books. I will divide the class into two and have one student stand in front. The team will have to ask 'What did you do this weekend?' and the student has to mime the activity. The team will guess and then team 2 repeats the activity. Hope it goes well!

Period 2 Book Card Game Practice and instructions. There are two sets of instructions. Co preferred students to put the cards in a pile and then to the side during play to stop them easily identifying torn cards. As this resulted in bickering. If you play in a 'spread card out' style those instructions are there too.

Here are a few items I did for my classes.

There are a few powerpoints and I made 2 worksheets. I didn't really feel there was that much new material for the kids so I focused mostly on vocabulary.

Used this for second period: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=358BxgGv7ac

We have the test coming up and have had to forego games and any long motivation things  in order to get through the material. The kids watched this video and I asked them "What did the dog do while the man was gone?" Kids answered in past tense, they really liked it.

So I made a reading activity. There are 2 different short stories and pics to go along with them. I labeled each clearly either A or B. Even on the sheet of pictures for you to cut out I place one letter somewhere on the page. So just cut out, put in envelopes and give first one and then the other to the student. I am actually mixing and matching. Tables will get A or B first time, and switch to the other for the next.
Enjoy! I'm excited to do this! I think it will be good. I am making the whole table read it together so weaker students don't feel overwhelmed or like they have to read alone. But students should be loud or they don't get a point for finishing.
