Here is a simple worksheet that matches what I got off here for fifth grade. I like them to match. It is for lesson one. It contains vocabulary, key sentences, and the dialogue.

It took eight months, but I finally finished blazing pens and handouts for all of 5th and 6th grade! And a funny story. I had an open class last week with the Office of Education watching me plus some other native teachers had micro lessons after me. After I finished my lesson, one of the teachers who had a micro lesson was mortified to see the blazing pens he had for his lesson was the exact same one that I used. I then told him I made it and then posted it on waygook for other people to use. It's a small world indeed. Happy teaching!

I have two ideas for activities for this chapter :)

One of which is having the kids make a bucket list. They can make a booklet by folding one or two pieces of paper and write "before I die" on the front, and then each page is something different. Make sure they write "i'm going to blah blah" for each page and draw a picture. I made a quick ppp of a few things I'd like to do that I'm going to show before to help explain it. I think it could be fun, a little morbid for gr 6, but I'm going to approach it more as 'fun things to do while you're alive!'

My other idea is to give each kid a weeks calendar, so monday to sunday, with times on it, 9 oclock to 21. It'll be a chart. I'll post it once I get around to making it. Have them write in things they have to do, school, hagwon, family time, etc. But then with the leftover time they can pick one or two things to do at any time on the schedule. Have them go around the class and ask everyone what they are doing, and answer. After each meeting, they have to write what that person is doing in their schedule. So after they ask everyone in the class, they will have a FULL schedule with their plans and all of their classmates plans too. I might make this a competition. Whoever finishes first gets a sticker. Using Korean though or just matching up schedules instead of using the dialogue gets you disqualified.

*update*  The bucket list went very well. I did it for my open class and the principal seemed to like it. The calendar game though was very confusing for the students. They all did their real schedule and then didn't get the point. They understood after a while but it took far longer than I expected. I guess this is better suited to higher level students or if you have a ton of time leftover.

:)

Cards for a listening activity. I will have two students race at a time across the room. Will be setting up some chairs in front of the desk on which I will have cards. When I call out the sentence, they have to find the right card and sit in the chair in front of it. So it's like musical chairs, without the music.

sentences:

I am going to the shopping mall. I want to buy some clothes.
I am going to the stationery store. I want to buy some pens.
I am going to the classroom. I want my notebook.
I am going to the library. I want to read some books.
I am going to the bakery. I want to buy some cookies.
I am going to the art museum. I want to see some paintings.
I am going to the flower shop. I want to buy some flowers.
I am going to the dairy farm. I want to buy some milk and cheese.

LOVE the musical chairs idea. I'm gonna modify it and make it more like musical chairs. Just four cards at a time, but many copies of them. all students play at once (possibly only use a team if it's too crazy/hectic) and play some music, when the music stops, they listen to a sentence and have to run around and find one of the many chairs that has that card on it. We can do each card once, then change the cards to a different set of four cards. FUN! Thanks mate :)

Also love the bucket list idea. I'm gonna do that with my 6th graders actually but 5th graders might work too after the exam time. We'll make an actual bucket too: http://www.origami-kids.com/paperairplanes-2-popcorn-cup.htm
Then cut strips of paper, write sentences and fill up our buckets. It'll be a bucket list for what they want to do in the vacation. Like a timecapsule, they can come back and check how many they've achieved after the Winter Break :)
Oh there's also a cool video for motivation... a TV show called "The Buried Life" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRexWE9yBVA

The content in this lesson is a bit muddled so I'm breaking it into pieces. We are doing a review of present continuous as one part of the lesson. I'm using this video and a fill-in-the blank worksheet I made.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6Eozn55Lqs&list=PL0431E3DF304B7D46&index=6&feature=plpp_video

The bottom of the worksheet has 10 blank lines because my Ss rarely have notebooks or paper in class so this is the only way I can get them to actually write down the sentences for Blazing Pens. It also helps their concentration because for them, it feels more official if they have to complete a worksheet instead of just writing it down in their notebooks.

There is also an info-gap schedule I made. One student gets the A side and their partner gets the B side. They each have 5 activites in bold on their schedule. They should tell their partner about them in full sentences. It's a bit complicated because of date and time but my kids can handle it. Ex: I am going to play soccer on Sunday at 4:00. Then the partner has to write it on his/her schedule.

Be careful with mixing up answers to "where are you going?" questions...

I think the book is practicing "I'm going to place".

"I'm going to have lunch" doesn't really work, as it's really expressing a plan rather than a current, movement-based action.

Unless I'm interpreting it incorrectly?

And for a contribution... a possible motivation video, with the mission question "where are they going?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgmPyazs3fc

I made a two-player board game that practices "where are you going?" and "what do you want to verb?" for period 2, speaking.

Students travel round the board, using the target language on page 192 to collect points and cross off items.  The winner is the student with the most points.  More detailed instructions included within.  The game is quick and easy to explain and setup, and follow simple rules.

Have also included my lesson plan.  I sometimes like to gawp at other people's lesson plans just to get new ideas, or to confirm what I'm doing right or wrong, so feel free to have a gander.  There's a probably a couple of mistakes in there :-)

EDIT: updated the game instructions to include +1 for each time you pass start.  I also added a little cultural extra: in the art class you can draw a kiwi fruit and a kiwi bird.  You can then ask the Ss what the third kiwi is.  Give them hints by asking your co-teacher "are you a kiwi?  no.  I'm friends with a kiwi though." etc, and try to elicit that we can call NZ people 'Kiwis'.

This game is great! My 6th graders don't work well with partners so we usually have to do activities for the entire class. I actually took your game board file and asked the woman who works in our materials room to print it large-poster size. I'm going to put it up on the blackboard and we will play as two large teams- boys vs. girls or something like that.

NOTE: game & lesson untested.  Thought I'd upload it early in case others were looking for something to do for P2.

Comic strips with prompts for the students to fill in and add their own drawings. I'm doing mine as a contest.

Hey fantastic blazing games I must say.  I've used most of them for the classes.  I'd thought I recommend a change for you though that has been really popular with some of the more advanced students in my class.  First of all, I always increase the points for each slide gradually so the first three are worth 1 point to the first teams to get them and the last few are worth around 5.  Secondly, I then add about 3 slides at the end with much longer sentences, sometimes with two or three sentences on one slide.  This is particularly challenging and the more advanced kids love it.  I make these slides worth 6 to 10 points for the first teams to figure them out.  Try it out.  The kids love a challenge.

I also have been increasing points with each slide for Blazing pens. It gets the teams that are behind much more incentive.

Can anyone think of any good movie scenes or songs with "I'm going to" in them?

I've thought of a couple songs and all of them are inappropriate.

Here's PP to quickly practice the key expressions.

I made a graduation ceremony game/activity.   Used this last year and it was a lot of fun for the kids.   I tried to incorporate the key expressions as best I could but I don't think it matters much, it's the end of the year and the kids want to have some fun.

Best athlete/dancer/hair  and   most likely to be famous/an actor  etc.

Teachers choose one student for first prize.  Has to answer 2 questions.  That student chooses the next winner.   Have the whole class ask the questions to the student.    Pretty straight forward.    You can teach the congratulations song to the class so they can sing it to each winner.

Kinda swamped at the moment so these are just borrowed from others.

First is a "pass the bomb" game. I took a fantastic template I saw on another thread and switched it for our lesson. I'd recommend you try it instead of the usual "pass the ball" doing the rounds...

Second is basically substitute for the look and speak section. I took most of the pics from a practice section already on this thread (thanks a million, hope you don't mind!) because I guess it doesn't hurt to have alternatives!

On a final note, may I register my disappointment that for the hundreds of teachers that use this thread we can't even fill one page full of materials? I've visited others and many lessons go as far as 4 pages. C'mon people, get uploading!!!

I think you said it!

Remember, a lot of classes will have wound down now, with teachers showing movies / lacking in interest at this time of year. :)
