Grade 6 Lesson 11 - Hallasan Is Higher Than Jirisan (Daegyo)
« on: September 11, 2012, 01:31:17 PM »
Here are a couple things.

Game we played, teams guess which ones is bigger, smaller, etc.  They get point if correct, whole class repeats the sentence. You might want to add a couple slides, I pulled out the ones of other teachers here at the school I did for taller/shorter and deleted my pic.

Fun Talk 2 - just simple worksheet for them to fill in the blanks while listening to it.

This comparisons PPT piggybacks the one already made by p33k (thanks p33k!).  I added some extra slides/categories/pictures and tweaked the display a little bit.

I would just like to state for the record that I did in fact remember to attach the file to the original post, but it isn't going through (possibly due to the file size). Anyways, here is a link to the file on Dropbox:

Decent motivation video. Doesn't cover our same vocab but the words are simple. You could write the root words on the board before playing the song.

Hi guys thanks for all the posts. I edited this baskin robbins 31 game for the reading part. Each student can only choose to read the words in one or two or three boxes (but not 4).They have to read in order. The student who is the 31st is out or wins a point. It depends on the teacher. I've tried this game by having the student skip the next rounds after they were out but the aftermath was not really good coz they wanted to play more and felt disappointed instead. So better make him earn a point. ^^ Enjoy.

Hi.

Someone posted an idea for a Top Trump card game and I liked the idea and made my own version.
I used cartoon characters and superheroes.  I divided the class into 6 groups and each group had a set of 12 cards.

Students practiced the expression, 'you know what? I'm ___-er than you'.

Attached is the document with the cards and a ppt to explain the game.

My students enjoyed the game.

A great activity my kids loved. I had them in 6 groups to find the tallest etc. then we did it in the whole class. The tallest from group 1-6 come up and we see group 6 has the tallest student etc. Lots of fun!

Very simple read and roll dice game. Divide the class into teams, each team starts with the numbers 1-6 on the board. They then take it in turns to read a sentence. If they are correct they roll the dice, first team to erase all 6 numbers wins.

Basic intro PPT (even though it says 11-2, typo!) and lesson 1 worksheet.

Apologies if there are mistakes in the Korean on the PPT - I teach alone so I do the best I can >_<

Also, there's a picture of me and my students on two of the slides - please feel free to change them!

I  made a PPT to do a table quiz for this lesson.
The quiz takes nearly a whole period (I just do the review page in the book) so is quite long.
There are answer sheets to print at the end.
I put them in pairs which worked quite well.
This also covers superlatives.
Also, some of the questions are largely unanswerable but the answers at the end are interesting so I did this intentionally.

Hey guys, this is just a general comparatives ppt that I made last year (different text book). I will be using it again this year to save on planning time.
It has basic vocab and some fun gifs...because gifs are awesome! ;D

Here's an easy game; choose 6 nouns (anything you want, but countries works well). Label them on the board/ppt 1-6. Students roll a dice twice, and use the two numbers they rolled to choose which two nouns they will compare. Then they make a sentence with them. Works well if you choose S's names too. ;)

This is a top trumps game which works really well in this lesson.  We've been teaching superlatives as well as comparatives, and  have also covered adapting adjectives that require using 'more', +er, and +ier.  So unfortunately, unless you're able to deviate from the book a little, this will probably be too complex for your students to handle.   However, there are lots of top trumps decks out there, and plenty that you can edit for your own purposes.  I highly recommend you give it a try with this lesson- my kids absolutely love it, and it provides a huge number of opportunities to use both comparatives and superlatives.

Period 1 lesson featuring three games.

The R-S-P game needs a separate timer, like one on a smart phone or tablet. Students come up and play RSP with the teacher, if they win they say BIGGER! or SMALLER! or whatever the appropriate comparative is and move on.

For the first game I choose 2 students at random using their student numbers. Then we compare to see who is faster, taller and stronger. Arm wrestling works well for stronger.

(Modified to be better able to tie in with Halloween)

Attached are 3 lessons for this chapter.

Lesson 3: Reading
The PPT was borrowed and modified from another user. It gives examples of comparatives. Then there are examples where the students have to create their own sentences based on the pictures and the comparative word given. Finally, there is a short passage that ties in the lesson with halloween. Students will then point out the comparatives used in the passage. Car Racing game with the language from the book.

Lesson 4: Writing
Students will practice comparatives again. This time there is a worksheet where students will create sentences using the comparative, the challenge is to relate it to halloween (PPT). Students will then choose 8 of the 24 sentences they created and use them for the activity. Creating a spider. Students will write 8 sentences on long strips of paper (the legs) and attach to a piece of paper. They will then have the opportunity to decorate their own spider. WARNING: So I wanted to scare my students mid lesson, so there is a popup that is meant to scare them. You can keep it or delete it but its there if you want it ^^

Lesson 5: Comparing Contest
This is based on the Classroom Olympics PPT (I included the original) and modified it some to have a more halloween feel/theme to it. Students select a student for each task and after finding out who is (taller/stronger/faster/etc) the groups have to create a sentence using the information.
