Nice lesson.

Don't forget to add the major differences in Valentine's Day in Korea, i.e. that in Korea the woman treats the man on Valentine's Day and on March 14 "White Day" when it is reversed.

In fact, until recently, most of the leftover candy was shipped to Japan and Korea for this day.

Also, you might want to put a blurb about having Valentine's Day parties in American schools and exchanging cards and candy with classmates and teachers.

Making a card for their parents is a great idea.

Thanks for the feedback. You make valid points some of which I plan on discussing in the warm up. I think going into greater detail in comparing and contrasting the two traditions would be great for middle high school levels students. My students have a low English level and with 6th grade graduation coming up in a few days their attention span will not allow much lol. At any rate, I appreciate the comment.

Glad you found it useful! Here is a short song for the lesson.  It is done by the guy who did the "duck song."

Here is a short Ppt I put together for my Elementary students today. There are 2 slides specific to the U.K., which can easily be edited, and there is some information on White Day and Black Day in Korea. I hope this is helpful to someone.

I use Valentine's Day as "Known Your Heart" day. I focus on circulatory system. We have a smartboard and through SmartExchange, can find unlimited, age-appropriate models and lesson plans on the Circulatory system!

Here's a simple Valentine's Day ppt suitable for 3rd graders. I used this last year and we made cards. Worked fine, but this time I will probably add a song in there too.

This is a ppt story I made about the history of Valentine's Day. It's probably ok for 4th, 5th or 6th graders.

If you're looking for an easy, lower-level-friendly Valentine's Day craft, I used these printable card creatures with my fourth graders today and they seemed to really like it.

http://madebyjoel.com/2012/02/valentines-card-creatures-kids-craft-printable.html

I started out the lesson by going through some Valentine's Day words, based on this word search: http://www.akidsheart.com/pics5z/valenws2.gif  (See attached ppt - it's the most basic thing ever, I threw it together in like half an hour)

Then, I made them finish the "roses are red" poem mad libs style. (see attached doc) We brainstormed "things that are red, things that are blue, things that are sweet" with the whole class.

After they made their card creatures, I had them write the poem inside. (Note: they printed out a lot smaller than I thought they'd be, so it's hard to fit a lot of writing in the message space.)

I gave them the word search to complete when they finished making their card creatures.

I'm doing a secret-Santa sort of Valentine thing with my 3rd and 4th graders. At my school there are two classes per grade. Each student in class 3-1 will randomly pick the name of a student in class 3-2 from a hat. They will have to make a Valentine for that student. On the front of the card they write why they like that student (slide 4 will be shown on the screen for their reference) and on the back is kind of like a hint about who this secret Valentine is (you can show slide 5 then). They will draw their own picture and tell about themselves so the receiver can try to guess who wrote it.

To prep: print slide 2 and 3 on opposite sides of the paper. I did it on thicker cardstock light-purple colored paper and it looked nice. Then I printed slide 1 on white paper, one page for about 4 students. Then they can choose one design, cut it out, color it, and glue it to the square on the front of the Valentine. You could of course skip that part if you want and just ask the students to draw any design/picture in that space.

Used the craft posted earlier ( http://madebyjoel.com/2012/02/valentines-card-creatures-kids-craft-printable.html ) for a Vday themed english festival for 3rd grade, and they loved it! Perfect for that age. Attached is the PPT I made with a small intro on Vday and instructions for the craft. Also, there's a link on the last slide for a Valentine's song.

This is a day late, but here's a Valentine's Day lesson I made!
I took this template from another poster, and edited and added my own materials.
I made an introduction PPT that also has Korean translations. The PPT includes a brief introduction on how we celebrate Valentine's Day in the USA. Next, I've included Valentine's Day vocabulary that you can teach the students.
After that, there are some simple fill-in-the-blank games and missing letter games that will quickly test how much vocab your students remember. I had students raise their hands and picked students to answer these quiz questions, and I rewarded correct answers with a piece of candy.
Lastly, I played Valentine's Day bingo with my students. I've also included a Valentine's Day song you can sing with your students if there is extra time (this song is probably best for 3rd and 4th graders). I've also included a Spongebob Valentine's Day episode. You can pick and choose what you want to do with your students, I've included a lot of extra materials.
