Quick intro powerpoint I made with some of the new vocabulary. I've found the sound effects to be hit or miss depending on which computer I'm using... Don't really know why, haha. Also, I took a picture of myself out of the slide for "I am on your right" you can either stand on the right of the TV or put a picture of yourself into the slide. The kids always got excited when that slide came up.

Also attached is copy of the "mime" game I used with the first lesson. I used the signs and idea  from an earlier post by mandu:

Some materials I made

and put them in a powerpoint. I went over each sign and then put up a list of the signs to leave on the TV. I had them do this activity as a class since I didn't really have time for them to do it as separate groups.

Also, here is a wordsearch/coloring page with key words from this chapter. I have a hard and an easy version. They have the same words and look the same, but the harder version has a large puzzle so the words are more difficult to find.

I used the easy version in class today and it kept the kids quiet and staring at English words and asking each other where other words were for 15 minutes! I gave a stamp to all the students who managed to find all the words.

Here's a PPT that shows various American road signs and asks students to guess what they mean. I went for some of the slightly unusual ones.

Gangnam Style bomb game (template stolen from the site  ;D) I have one with sound effects on all the score slides and one with the original placement of sound effects (ie: only on special slides). I haven't tried them yet, we'll see how much of this song I can stand, haha. That's why I made 2 versions.

I made a short writing game (5 qs, a little less than 10 mins to play) and a chase the vocab review.

I wrote up some quick and dirty Aesop Fables scripts for use with this chapter.  The tie in is that they use "should/shouldn't" in stating the moral.  I have five or six teams of four in my 5th grade classes, with an occasional group of threee, so I have scripts accordingly.  I can't imagine them running much over two minutes each; ten minutes planning and practice time, and theree's a period completed.
UPDATE: I found/made some simple props/masks, etc.  Two classes did this activity today, and they went rather well.  We stopped with about 14-15 minutes before the bell, and had them start presenting.

Here is my introduction to the chapter (should/don't) and a 4 pic/1 sentence game.

For the game I had all the possible sentences (plus extras) written on the board. I showed them the slide and then in teams they had to write which sentence they thought corresponded to the pictures. I had a timer and after 30 secs it went of and they all had to lift their boards. Any team with the correct answer got a point.

I came across this safety song - a parody of 'We are the World.' They are German but are singing in English. (some English spelling mistakes) but my students like it as a warm up video.

The story box about The Wright Brothers provided a nice opportunity to talk about early flight attempts. Here are a couple of videos I showed in my class.

Here's a 'Snowball' game for this lesson. The students add key sentences to make long lists. It's like the 'We're going on a picnic' game we played as kids and said one food, then the next person says my food plus another. There are directions on the PPT. My students really liked this.

Here are my materials for the Story Box period 5 of this lesson:

Since the story is about the Wright Brothers, I took the opportunity to teach the students a little more about them at the beginning of class. I showed the video that someone else posted on here first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5o-fhBKf8Y&feature=youtu.be

It can't actually be the first flight because I doubt it was recorded on camera, I think only still pictures were taken of the first flight. Plus, there is a car in it, plus there are two people flying the plane sitting upright, and the first flight was done by only one Wright brother laying down.  I don't think it matters that much, it's just to get the kids interested. Historical accuracy as far as the video goes is not what's really important.

Anyway, so then I gave a short power point presentation about the Wright brothers. My co-teacher translated some of the main points. I am from North Carolina, so I talked up the NC locale. Then I did the story box part, and then had the kids practice the dialogue with the disappearing dialogue portion of the PPT. Then Think, and Into the Story, and finally the role play.

There wasn't time at the end for each group to do the role play at the end in each class, so if that's a problem, you can adjust the lesson plan. Such as omitting the less than historically accurate video;) Cheers!:)

Here's the PPT I used to explain the whisper game.  I used key expressions from the textbook, such as 'You should wear your helmet', or 'Don't jump on the bed', as well as a few new ones.
