Grade 1 lesson 2.

Not much, but it'll help kill some time after the listening section in the book.

Here is a Connect 4 game for the target sentence "Why Don't You".

I've used this game many times with my students and it always goes over well. Though it needs to be paired with a review of some kind because it won't last the full 45min.

Enjoy!

I edited the game worksheet a little to include more of the target language (per request of my co-teacher)

The rows include:
- Why don't you (play) ~ ? i.e. Why don't you play soccer with us?
- Why don't you (open) ~? i.e. Why don't you open the door?
- Why don't you (join) ~? i.e. Why don't you join the photography club?
-  Why don't you (go to) ~? i.e. Why don't you go to the English room?
- Why don't you (give me) ~? i.e. Why don't you give me your homework?

EDIT: I fixed one of the squares on the gameboard and I'm uploading the reworked powerpoint as well. ;) Near the end, the pictures still don't match during the "player 1 and player 2 example" slides - but it's a small thing. I don't think it will be a problem ~ ^^

I have 32-36 boys in each of my classes, so I put contact paper (aka. cheap alternative to laminating) over all the gameboards to make them more durable and so I can reuse them in my other classes. Just give students a dry erase marker and a tissue, then let them have at it! ^^

Here's what I'm doing for the first lesson of chapter 2.  I always go through the dialogues with my students and try to make them seem a little less O_o  if you know what I mean.  The ones in this book are very special.

Other than that, I really love the Connect 4 game for this.  I modified the PowerPoint so that the words/phrases at the beginning of the explanation slide appear and fill in the blank when clicked.  I also included the (unchanged) worksheet that was with it so people wouldn't have to hunt for it.

I also used the connect 4 game. Nice one cutieturtle07!

Slides 26-30 I use to explain the game to the students. There are instructions in the comments box underneath slides 26, 29 and 30. I usually make 6 teams and for each team roll a dice to chose one student who has to chose the number and give the answer, but the others can help.. whatever works.

Just posting things now, but hopefully it'll help somebody next school year!

My brother was visiting for the first part of this chapter, so my kids just focused on the club activities theme.
They are divided into teams, so each team had to select a club activity theme and make a poster explaining their poster. At the end, each team had to present their poster and the class chose the best one.
Please note that nearly every group of my kids took two class periods to finish their posters.
They really brighten up the classroom and the kids had a lot of fun making them!

Here's a Mystery Box game I made for Lesson 2. It's a bit messy in places and maight need tidying up. Covers both the key phrases in the chapter.

Looking at the key expressions;
Why don't you join my computer club?
Let me think... I'm free after 2P.M.

Going through the dialogue, listening to a song and filling in the worksheet.

Here's a simple Study Guide review worksheet for chapters 1 and 2. Hope it's usually for others out here.

Standard Disclaimer: I made these lessons a while ago and I probably used some of previous posters' uploaded work. If you would like individual credit where I have used/stolen/butchered/altered to the point of unrecognisability your work, please message me and I will see to it.

A few personal vacation pictures (of elephants, making cookies etc) at the beginning, change if you want. Definitely nicked the Connect 4 game from someone above.
'Run for the hills!'
'They're coming from the hills, sir.'
'Run away from the hills! If you see a hill, run the other way!'

Lesson 2: Ghibli review game
« Reply #12 on: April 19, 2016, 11:16:27 AM »
This thread is looking a little sad.

We are still on lesson two, so if anyone is with me I hope this helps.  It's a Ghibli review game for lesson two.  Credit goes to the creator of this game!  I just filled in the blanks on the template.
