American Football After School Class
« on: February 16, 2011, 06:35:59 PM »
Hello all,

So my co-teachers wanted me to do an activity based after school class for about 1:30 hours once a week.  Having played football for 9 years, this was an easy choice.  The class will teach the rules, history, current NFL teams and players, etc., but will be focused on actually playing the game in a 7 on 7 touch style.  I'm not sure if or how many students will sign up for the class, but I'm going in with the notion that almost all of them have never played before.

My question to all of you is if anyone else is doing anything like this.  I thought it would be cool to play some games against other schools once the weather gets a little warmer.  I teach at a middle school in the Jamsil (east) area of Seoul.

There is actually a Korean Professional American football league, so I planned on taking them to a game, and then in the fall keeping an NFL fantasy team.

Let me know if anyone is already doing this or interested in starting.

Hey there,
I taught my students after school football and they loved it!  My principal and co-workers were equally happy as well.  I kept the rules simple, and played two hand touch.  Also, you may need to dedicate two or three classes to practice throwing and catching (none of them had actually used a football in their life).  I had them running play patterns in about two weeks.  The only problem I had was the three girls who were in the class...they weren't interested AT ALL and just sat on the sidelines...

Hope this helps!
