Here is a pairs memory game (concentration) to practice the vocab and phrases used in Unit 1.

Put the students into teams, and they have to match the coordinating pictures/quotes.

Fun, I hope:-)

Hi, guys...this is my first posting for this so please don't laugh...lol

This is my 7th/1st grade meet the twins powerpoint. I made a power point today and will probably use it next week...I plan on doing ice  breaker lessons for the rest of week to get myself comfortable with the kids and them with me. I also plan on fleshing out a bit more material in class so sorry if its a bit vague. I will get them to drill and repeat the dialogue and then create their own mini poster of themselves and get them up and mingling with the other students in the class. I will also have to get them to complete the workbook.

Take what you need and take out my photos/name and change them to yours  8)
hope it helps.

Hey There!

I've been using these books now for 1 1/2 years. Though we just got the new 3rd year text book this year, so I've only used them for 1st and 2nd year students.

My school is pretty relaxed in that I've made lessons based on themes, dialogues, ideas, in the books but not totally focused on exactly what is written.

I'll share some of the better and more successful lessons from grades 1 and 2.

I'm looking forward to what we can come up with for grade 3 as it's the first time working with this book for me.

Here's the first week lesson I did for the 1st graders from Unit 1: Meet the Twins.
It gets the students interviewing each other and then presenting their partner to the class.

Note: My first year students were split according to their English levels, so all my 1st year lesson plans were tailored for high-level speaking students. Adapt the lesson to best suit your students.

Cheers.

hi, I made a bomb game for review for first grade - Meet the Twins.
Thanks to Amy Rodulfo for creating the template...
I've used my name on couple of slides, so take it out and change it to your name.
I hope it helps some of you.

For the introduction portion of this lesson, I had the students introduce themselves. After that we played a game where the students introduced the class to their celebrity friend. I cut out the pictures of each person and put the four pieces of information on the back so they could say "Hello. My name is _______. This is my friend, ____________. He/She is from ____________. He/She likes ____________ and his/her nickname is ____________."

I put the cards in various places on the board. Each team had one student come up to throw a squishy ball at the board. I gave them 3 tries to hit a person. They would then introduce the person to the class. Each card was worth a random point value.

It was very fun! The kids really got into it and were very particular about which celebrity they wanted to introduce. ^^

Pumpiron90- Thanks:-) The other pairs games I attached (2,3,4) are better- they have bonus points so it's more fun for the students. I'm glad to hear it went well for you

For this lesson, I brainstorm an introduction with students.  For low level students, I write the full introduction on the board minus important words (My name is ___________.  I am ___ years old.  etc.), for medium level students, I give a few examples but otherwise just write the main points on the board (Name, Age, etc.) and high level students, I just give the main points, or nothing at all.

I print off the pictures in the file (attached here) in color, laminate them and give each student one picture.  I make sure each group of four has four different pictures.  I have students then imagine an introduction for their picture and write that introduction.  Then, they introduce their picture to their group.  Depending on the class level, the other students can ask follow up questions about each picture.  Then, the group chooses the most interesting / funniest picture and presents to the class.

NOTE: I'd recommend deleting the picture of Andre Kim as the kids actually know who he is and so they tend not to imagine an introduction but rather just try to remember information about him.  Also, make sure you count the cards between each class as the boys in particular tend to steal the more appealing pictures.

A lot of material came from other posters; I may have changed some things to suit my students.

I would post my lesson, but anyone would have to to MAJOR editing as I did the whole "Hello my name is" thing with a ton of info about who I am with photos of my family and house in Canada. Don't need any internet stalkers.

Anyway, I edited a "pass the ball" game I found on another middle school thread. It's simple with the music playing for a set time and when it stops whoever has the "ball" has to introduce themselves (or one of a few other things) there is also candy winning!

Note: My version is "pass the fish" as I have a plush fish to throw around, not a ball...
also, each song is different (mostly from 90s tv shows). You'll need to keep the files in the proper folders to keep the links working.

HOW CAN I USE THIS ?

As for the person who wrote, "How can I use this?", are you referring to the lesson or the ZIP file?

ZIP files can be unlocked with "unzipping" programs, which are easily downloaded on the Internet. Just type in "unzipping program" on Google, Yahoo!, or another search program.

Thank you so much for everyone's hard work at putting this together!

I edited this PowerPoint. I put the picture game INTO the PowerPoint, because I really didn't want to do separate cards. The kids LOVE talking about pictures! It is surprising the vocabulary they come up with...

I have to teach this from monday morning and, needless to say, this has given me a great idea of how to teach the lessons as I've had no help from my co-teacher. Thanks for the help!
I'm lovely.

were you given CD's to teach with for middle school grades 1,2 and 3? Apparently I have to whack the CD on and use the textbook to teach as well, but it hasn't been made clear to me exactly how to do this.
I'm lovely.

I was given the CDs, so I imagine I'll have to teach with them as well, though I haven't given them a listen to know how to incorporate them yet.

Here's what I put together. It's a combination of other ppts and a bit of my own. I'm going to get them to do a couple of speaking activities and complete the worksheet that has been posted above.

EDIT: I have done this lesson a few times now with my 1st graders and they really love it!

Here is the lesson I am doing with my first graders on introducing their "friends."

I do a daily dialogue practice with them every day first.

Then I am going to go over what information you might want to know about someone and questions you can ask.

Then I am going to show them my "friends" on a ppt. Two of them (Bob the Monster and Harry Potter) I will introduce to them. The next two, I will introduce them, but they will also have to ask questions about them (Barack Obama and My Girlfriend, Meagan). The last two, they have to introduce to me (Pororo and Kim Tae-Yeon).

Then we will end the class with them making up their own "friend." They will fill out a sheet with information about them, draw a picture of them, and then take turns introducing them to the class.
