Anyone got any ideas for Grade 2 Lesson 3 - The 'I'm going...Can you go to...I'm looking forward to" part of the book? (Textbook exercises 40B, 41B, 41C & 42B, 43A)

I'm struggling a wee bit this week - thinking of having students in pairs plan a tour or something similar for their partner...

I did this class yesterday. The lesson wasn't well prepared so I'll touch it up before I upload anything but one speaking practice activity went well.
I asked everyone to stand on their chairs. They had to say a "I'm looking forward to ......."  e.g. "I'm looking forward to lunch."
"I'm looking forward to exams being over." sentence. One by one we went through the class and students were asked to put up their hands up when they were ready to say their sentence. They were all eager not to be one of the last few standing so we got through the class quickly.  I do have classes of about 18 so this may not be possible for larger classes.

I also made a short & veeery simple video with my girlfriend for the listening section. I was bored of the bad acting and animations so this video should hopefully be a welcome reprieve, it uses pretty much the same script though. If you want me to email the video let me know.

Great work guys - this group continues to help me a lot. I love it when I post my lessons and someone polishes it up and makes my presentations better - my coteachers are always shocked when suddenly all the fonts are changed and new slides are added. Anyway, here is my grade 2 review Simpsons bomb game. A lot of these questions will be relevant to everyone but some definitely wont so please do change them.

Here is the lesson that i am doing right now for my 3rd graders, on making plans on the phone wihch kinda goes along with lesson 3. It works out pretty well especially for the high level kids. they really like it. for low level its a bit tough but i use the ppt for them. the high level kids i dont even bother with the ppt. here is also a video that i made that goes along with the diolouge. http://www.youtube.com/user/khakipnts9#p/a/u/1/jlcPPm0h98E I show it to my students and make them tell me who, what, where, and when...it works well cause my kids recognize me and my gf . feel free to use it but it might work better if you made your own video. The worksheets were taken from a different site...maybe bogglesworld, so take everything and do what you will with it.

I have just one Grade 1 class on Friday who have already had 6 lessons - one more than my other Grade 1s so I'm stacking up revision games so I can stretch it out to two lessons for them, so I might post some more next week.

These links are to Quiz Buster games using the vocab words from the lists on the first page of Lessons 1, 2 and 3 of the Activities book.  It's basically 'Blockbuster' for the Brits amongst you - I don't know if it was aired in the US or elsewhere, but it's a two-team game, first hand up answers the question.  Really simple and always a hit with my kids.

The ppt is for a 'Guess Louie' Game using random subject/words also from the first three chapters (ignore the fact that the file is named Lesson 1 and 2).  For anyone who hasn't played this yet, one student sits with their back to the board while the rest of the class or team shouts out clues to the word on the board.  When they say it you move on to the next word - 5 in all.  The timer is set for 2 and a half minutes.  Don't worry if you don't see the timer for the first two minutes - it only starts for the final 30 second countdown.

alikaz, thanks for the "Try Yoga" lesson. I had a lesson planned for my second graders this week but I didn't realize that I already taught that lesson to one class already! I realized it this morning and had no time to make anything myself.

This is a little activity I put together for my Grade 3 kids. Since most of these chapters seem to be going over the same information OVER and OVER again, I thought I would do some sort of compilation game. Attached is an excel worksheet. You need to print it out using the print on both sides function. Cut each phrase out but keep the suggestions in one pile and the responses in another. Place each pile in its own bag. Two bags of paper per pair of students.

How to play: In pairs, students will take turns drawing a piece of paper from the bags switching which bag they take from each round. The student who takes from the suggestion bag will read his paper followed by the student who took from the response bag. After they have said the English, the students flip over their papers. On the back side is a number (points) and a rock, paper, scissors symbol. Whoever has the winning symbol (rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock) recieves that number of points. If the students have the same symbol they must actually play rock paper scissors to determine the winner. Most points at the end wins. (paper can be put back into the bag to be reused).

I would wander around the class to make sure students are speaking English. Note: my kids are really low level so I just try to get them to practice speaking more so than phrase memorization.

Hey!  Thought I'd post my lesson for Try Yoga that I will be teaching next week.  It's basically a mix of a bunch of great ideas everyone uploaded and shared!  Thanks for the ideas, guys!  You're rockstars.  I did add a simple game at the end: trashcan basketball.  My students go nuts over it, so I thought it would be a good supplement to the lesson! 

Trashcan Basketball:  rules are simple.  Cut sheets off paper out that read: shoot, double shoot, change, and tornado.  Get a trashcan/recycle box and a soft ball.  You will also need to make 3 markers (easy shot, average shot, and 'downtown' shot) to place on the floor.  After teams give a correct answer to the question or in this case problem - they get a chance to choose a sheet of paper.  They do whatever the paper says (shoot, double shoot, change points, or tornado - lose all points). If students are shooting, they choose their place marker to shoot from.  Double shoot just means they double their points.  I usually do 2, 4, 6 and double: 4, 8, 12. Teams with the most points, wins.

PPT slide:  You will see black slides with 'What's up' 'What's wrong' and 'What's the matter.'  Before the students see the problem, the class must yell the phrase shown.

Here is a simple activity that you can do for 1st Grade: What a Surprise! It works great with very low leveled students. They draw a present to give to you, then they practice the dialogue in partners. Finally, you go around and have each student give the present while saying the dialogue for person A. Make sure to mix up the "I like it" sentence to something different each time.

It probably won't work in large classes unless you have them draw a gift for their partner and then have them recite the conversation in pairs.
