^^ The students are pretty familiar with most major American blockbuster movies.  Can't go wrong with any of the Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. Middle school girls in particular will *squeal* if you show them Twilight.   

Keep in mind that sometimes the titles of releases are different here - for instance, 'Despicable Me' is known as 'Superbad' (and definitely not to be confused with our version of 'Superbad,' which is WAY inappropriate for school, haha)

Thanks Gookie for the Loch Ness link. Unfortunately I think it's too difficult for my students without any subtitles cos most of my lot are pretty low level.  :(

Also thanks to mjjhitz27 and karenology - I pinched bits out of both your Grade 3 Lesson 7 PPTs and added in some extra slides of my own for my students. To kill a bit of time, I've made a basic matching and dialogue practice worksheet for Grade 3 Lesson 7.1. Maybe someone else has a few minutes to kill too and could make use of it! I've also got a few PPT slides that go with it that give the answers and the full dialogue in the right order for the students to practice.

Love this - can't wait to use next week. Thanks for your work :)

Does anyone else have to create speaking tests? Mine happen october 3rd for grade 3's. I'm going to try to find a poem for them to memorize and speak. Has anyone ever made one before? I don't want to make it too hard for them!

SAment56, clever idea for a speaking test! I like the balance of memorization and creativity.

For my speaking tests, I'm usually rushing to finish all my students on time.

I stand outside in the hallway and ask every student three out of maybe twelve possible review questions covering material from my classes. I use little flash card size pictures and empty speech bubbles to establish the questions' context quickly. Often I use the same language examples I had from class.

Students can bounce back the same language points or can answer more creatively if they want or forget the book's phrases. I grade each response between 0-4, meaning the test scale is 0-12, which gives me pretty good flexibility.

Grades 1 and 2 lesson 8 ppts and worksheets

i got the grade 2 ppt from someone's post here about directions, then changed almost everything and added a bunch of things and also changed the map worksheet with new questions.  no one would probably notice...but i don't want to be called out for 'stealing' haha.

thank you for the ppt~ i think the video will actually be very good for my class and i got some useful relevant things from your ppt :)

I noticed that there weren't any lessons related to Second Grade, Lesson 7 about Complaining (Part C on page 122) so I decided to quickly make one as I finished this chapter today. It might be a little late but those who are still on this chapter can modify and use it.

I have uploaded my Lesson plan with short descriptions of each stage. I've also uploaded my board plan and a very simple PPT to demonstrate the model dialog.

Here is 2nd Grade - Lesson 8- Princess Backwards (which I also used for 1st grade - Lesson 9 - Fun Cartoons).

We spent 3 weeks on this so here is the breakdown;

1st - practicing prepositions of movement and place.  There is a sort of 'I Spy' picture activity where each student must come up with a different sentence using a different preposition.  Afterwards there is a preposition scavenger hunt competition where after circling the preps on the worksheet, they had to work in groups to find the answers.  I also gave each student 2 resource sheets with all the prepositions on them (attached).

2nd - Directions for the Seoul Metro.  The beginning uses a Simpsons video to practice the prepositions from the week before.  Teacher's sheet included.  The powerpoint basically is a compare and contrast of the Seoul Metro and other major systems in the world before going into how to give directions on the subway.  Its more relevant for them here in Korea.  I went to Seoul Station and got a bunch of English metro maps for the practice activity (which is at the end of the Powerpoint) where they must ask for and give subway directions in pairs.

3rd - Street directions.  The beginning is a sort of who can find it first contest for recognizing and pointing out location of English subway names.   Then we go over street directions, which is more specific to the book.  I used a map of Myeongdong (at the end of the powerpoint) which although in Japanese, has English names of establishments.  Its a pain in the ass to edit and print, but I made a classroom set.  After a brief practice activity like the subway one from the previous week, there is a Mario Bomb game for giving directions on the subway, on the street and all together review for subway AND street.

I have been asked to do a speaking test for my 3rd graders on Monday 24th October.

This is what I have.

It's 12 questions from lessons 6, 7 and 8.

I have been asked to basically set the test out as an interview, whereby I ask each student 3 or 4 questions from the list.

I have been told from my co-teachers that what I've done is fine and they are happy.

It also comes with flash cards (for the intermediate and higher level questions) to help the lower level students if they are struggling.

It's a pretty basic test but it's what my school have asked for, so if you would like to use it feel free.

Any feedback would also be appreciated.

Now I'm teaching English at a boy's middle school in Gumi, South Korea.

I have this book published by "능률교육".

The company is  one of the biggest and well-known English book Companies.

And the main author was late Professor Jang, who contributed to Korean English Education a lot.

I believed her and the company.

What do you think about that?

Super helpful! Thank you for your well-planned lessons.  I've already done some directions with the second graders last week, but you have given me some great material to follow it up with a lesson on prepositions. 

My kids are quite low level, so I'll have to cut and change some things, but really a great lesson.

Hi everyone

I have found that my students (and many of my co-teachers) really struggle with numbers in English. Putting a number like 64 or 881 on the screen and asking them to read it is very difficult for them.  Even my higher level third grade students don't seem able to read them out. Has anyone else found that their students struggle with this?

I am having a second go at the shopping section in lesson 8 for the 1st graders and I thought that I would review numbers. I have NO experience with this sort of thing. Is there any particular way that will work best to review numbers? It seems easy enough to me, but obviously it is not that easy or the class would have it right.

Please could someone point me in the right direction here? What is it that is tripping them up?

A couple of (slightly rubbish) review 'games' for various grades. And Communication Spotlights for lessons 8-10 (for some reason my kids do a whole lot better when they don't use the book!)

I know I've used the G3 Ch 6&7 and 8&9 ones but the others I can't remember so make sure you check all is well!

And a prepositions ppt which I've been using for G2 and with a bit of tweaking it can be G1 suitable (this is adapted from someone else's on here, no credit is claimed)

GRADE 1 LESSON 10: I Have A Dream
GRADE 2 Lesson 10: Inventions by Teens

Both of these leeson are ways and expressions of saying goodbye.
The main lessons It's pretty much the same lesson for Grade 1 and Grade 2 with extras for grade 2 (e.g riddles, jokes and idoms). However you might need to edit to suit your student's level.
In fact i did three different verions for my Low, Basic and Advance levels students in my school.

For the worksheet i did part 5 (slide 21 in Grade 1 ppt and 42 in Grade 2 ppt) with my advance students ONLY.

Again take what you like and omit those not appropraite for your students.
