The speaking portion of this lesson deals mostly with prepositions, so here's stuff about prepositions.

There's a lesson, "prepositions.ppt" and also a related bomb game "explosions.ppt"

The handout, "Handout.doc" is used for the Listen and Draw portion of the lesson.  There is a script for said activity which you'll have memorized by noon on Tuesday but will find useful on Monday morning.

The extra handouts are not part of the lesson.  They are kept on hand for unruly classes to be filled out as punishment in lieu of a game.  For best results, inform students (and your co-teacher) before the lesson that their behaviour determines which lesson they receive.

There are also several movie files which (unlike images) failed to embed in the ppts.  Keep them in the same directory as the ppt files and they should play automatically.

If anything fails to play properly (or it looks like there should be a movie slide where there isn't one, let me know and I will offer advice.

P.S. For slide 16 it's best to pause the video at regular intervals and ask the students where the cat is.

Intro ppt.'s bingo game

bingo game is about school rooms, the blanks are include some other vocab.

criss cross bingo - two students or teams play against each other. One side asks a question the other team answers, then rock scissor paper winner puts their name on that square.
Ex.  A: What is Mina doing?  B: She is dancing.   (RSP- B wins so B puts their name in that corresponding box)  First student/team to get a bingo wins or who ever has the most names on the paper.

This is a quick worksheet utilizing part C of listen and talk 2. Students don't like to speak up, so this lets them rehearse by writing.

These are all the materials (powerpoint, worksheet, and game) for listen and talk 1, focusing on "is doing".

Game idea for practicing prepositions: Print out a set of flashcards or a set of numbers. Post these around the classroom (ie, IN the trashbin, ON the trashbin, OVER the trashbin, UNDER the trashbin, etc). Give students slips of paper with the locations written on them.  Allow students 1-2 minutes to find the correct object. The first five or so can have candy.

Here's a little quiz I am going to use at the end of the lesson to concept check. It's very simple.

Still working on my lesson plans for the rest of this chapter, but I thought I'd post what I have so far. I teach 4 class periods on each lesson, so there's some additional material that isn't necessarily covered by the textbook.

Lesson 2A focuses on "Where is he? / He is in the park" and "What is she doing? / She is dancing."

Lesson 2B introduces students to prepositional phrases, and also teaches the names of places (restaurant, police station, pharmacy, etc). I printed out pictures of the various places and went through the pictures 2-3 times. Afterward, I handed out the worksheet. The front should be pretty self-explanatory. On the back, there is an empty "city block." This is a listening activity where students write in where the various stores are located. [Better instructions are in the lesson plan.] Afterward, I drew the city block on the board and had select students come up and fill it in.

Lesson 2C reviews place names with a matching concentration game. Afterward, I played a location game. I took pictures of places around town (Lotteria, the post office, etc) and asked students to write down what was next to or behind those places. This worked for my students because we're in a tiny town and everyone knows where everything is. I'm not uploading that powerpoint because there's lots of pictures of my students and I don't want to violate their privacy.

Lesson 2D is a review lesson. I did the communication task and then played a Where's Waldo? themed bombed game.

This is what I did today, and it went alright. Pres.doc is the lesson plan. Please excuse the irrelevant filename.

This is what I'm doing for my first lesson for this chapter.  It follows the "What is Mina doing?" phrase.

It's a basic lesson - first it goes over verbs, what they are, and asking for examples (this will be a challenge for my kids).  Then it moves into verb+ing (reading, writing, skiing, etc.).

There is a small activity where all of the students must stand up and one student must act out a verb from the board.  I'll ask, "What is *name* doing?" and the other students have to answer, "*Name* is _______."  Then the actor can sit down, but they still have to respond.  I have an extremely small class (7 students) so I'm going to tell them that they can't use a word that someone else has already used.  But if you have bigger classes you could add words or just say you can't use the same word that the person right before you used.

I'm going to close it up with the Wack-a-Mole game from jeffziegler - liked that one man.  I'll be using that game again I can promise you that.

Wish everyone the best of luck with this chapter.

Hey everybody,

Here is my lesson plan and materials for the second chapter. It's split in between two lessons because I have more time with the first graders. The Day 2 includes school locations that are also common to America. My students enjoyed hearing that teacher's have their own room, and students move around. They were also surprised that older high school students can sometimes drive themselves to school. There's also a bomb game attached with review questions from Lesson 1 and 2. ^^ Enjoy.

I decided to do a largely tech free lesson for this unit.  It is centred on demanding student participation.  All of the actual teaching is done on the board and almost nothing goes up that does not come from my students.  I was unsure if this would work, however,it has been really successful for three classes now so I thought I would share it.  Originally I had a ppt as back-up, but I did not even bring it to the last class.  The game concepts are obviously borrowed from elsewhere, but the cards are new.  If you have a lot of classes it may be worth laminating them.  I print and cut up the pictionary slips and throw them out as they are used.  I find the sheet gets me through about 3 classes at which time I re-print them.
Hope you find this useful.

This is a board game I made for me kiddos. They had a lot of fun with it. I showed it and blew it up on the TV to give them instructions. (Useless co-teachers) Works well in groups of four. Print and laminate the game on B4 paper, and explain that one person should make a sentence using the name or pronoun, and the other partner should make a sentence.

For example: the first one is A. What's Mina doing? B. She's jumping.

Print out a list of the answers too because the pictures are a bit hard to see sometimes. The last picture is me, so...you might change it to your own picture.

Here's an information gap activity I made.

Put students in partners. Give one the "A" paper, the other the "B". They must speak to each other and draw the items on the picture.

Usually I do an example with a co-teacher first. After they're finished, you can call on random students and ask "where is the.....?"

Here is a PPT with two or three lessons worth plus a document containing a lesson plan for each lesson in the PPT.
It's basically a bunch of different stuff from this thread that I put together.
My lesson also includes the 1st worksheet above by rachelxlim, thanks, it's great!
Hope it helps!
