My idiot co-teacher blasted through this book. That being said I have about 17 classes to get through this chapter. I am having to do a whole unit on jobs. As for the first part of this chapter on the phrase, "I'm interested in..." here is my powerpoint and game. My kids loved the PP because of the GIFs. Hope this helps someone!

I find myself in the same situation; done with the book, and endless amounts of 'free' lessons to do... I have one more week, then I guess on to the 'Special Lesson'?

I'll post my material dealing with "What do you want to be in the future?" soon

Here are my materials for 2 lessons on the this chapter "My Hopes and Dreams." One week is on I'm interested in, and the second is What do you want to do in the future. Both are powerpoints with the key language, and both have matching worksheets to do during class.

So here are my materials for part two of this lesson. Focuses on the "What do you want to be in the future? I want to be a ______" phrase.  Tried to reinforce the 'why' by bringing in the key phrase from last week "Because I am interested in_________."

For the Sudden Attack game, for each question, I have the first student read the phrase at the top of the screen first "What do you want to be in the future?"  the next student make a sentence from the picture, and the next student must answer why. This allows most students to answer a few different phrases during the game... Hope it helps someone out there out.

Cheers

I liked the GIF idea and the other ppt idea, so I put them together. I made a game out of the first few slides. Kind of like a guessing game where each click removes a box.

I tried to get them to be as general as possible in the beginning, then I also taught them "What kind(s) of __________ are you interested in?"

They seemed to like it well enough...especially the slide at the end which you'll have to make your own.

Good luck.  8)

1. PPT with imbedded link for song about jobs
2. word document with "I have.../Who has..." cards
3. In the future I want to be a/an...

Oddly enough, my middle school students seemed to be into the video. I thought it may be a bit too young for them, but they're pretty low, language-wise, so I think they appreciated the simplicity of the English.

With the "game"- print enough of the cards so each student gets one. Don't pass out the first card (I have a farmer/who has someone who designs clothes) as you'll use this one to begin the game.

Read each card (using the ppt slide) with students and explain how the game works. (Students listen for their job and stand up if they have it. First one to stand up reads "I have a.../Who has..." and gets a prize. If more than one student stand up at the same time, rock-paper-scissors.) Make sure to pass out the cards AFTER reading them on the board and explaining the game.

In the last 15 or so minutes of class, students can fill out the worksheet/draw a picture of what they want to be in the future. I have each student read their sheet to me as I collect them.

Looking for something really cheesy to play while students complete their drawings? Try this:
Korean subtitles, too.

Thanks for the post, it looks nice. Just a tip for the future, the blue font on a blue background can be hard for kids to see. Especially those sitting in the back. A lot of kids here don't have great eyesight.

This is a little something for the Language in Use section on Page 165 for Chapter 10, My Hopes and Dreams.  It has to do with the use of Prepositions of Time.  It could be adapted as a lesson for that specific purpose (prepositions of time) and there is lots of repeating in the power point, to the degree that my students almost began laughing, but by the end, they certainly knew it.

At the end, I had them interview 3 other classmates to determine their birthdays, and at the end they had to tell the class who the youngest person they interviewed was in the format:

The youngest person I interviewed was _____ and he/she was born IN the month of August (example) ON the 10th (example), IN 1996.

I hope it works for someone out there.

Here's a quick minesweeper game to use the structures:
What do you want to be...
I want to be a...
I'm interested in...
I like...
I love...
etc.

I only completed 2 of the three available templates (there's a couple practice ones you can delete or pass over), but it should be simple enough.  I have plenty of stuff, but just wanted something else.

**As an update, this actually worked quite well.  They had trouble thinking or knowing or recalling "taking pictures = photographer", "medicine  / medical field = Doctor" etc, and also just in general pronunciation (they kept wanting to say, "I'm interesting in..."

Either way, we had a good time, and they really enjoyed it.  Hope your minions enjoy it too.

Here's yet another fun one; unsure if I have done this with my 3rd school or not.
Either way, I will first play me versus them so they get the hang of it, and then I will let them loose on each other.
Gr 1 L10 Hopes and Dreams Battleship, focusing on:

Are you interested in...  (field)
I'm interested in... (field / study)
What do you... want to do/ be in the future/ find interesting, etc.
Do you want to be... a doctor/reporter/chef, etc.
I think... teaching is interesting/computers are interesting, etc.

I found the Battleship explanation somewhere here.  I know there is a better one, but didn't want to go looking...

Enjoy

Attached is a PPT introducing the question "What are you interested in?" I taught that "I am interested in" + a noun or -ing verb could be used as a response (I am interested in music / listening to music).

At the end of the PPT is a Guess Who! game. Also attached is a handout with characters. The teacher chooses a character and students ask "What are you interested in?" The teacher gives one of the four answers for the chosen character. Students can make one guess before asking the question again. The first student to guess the correct character chooses the next one.

This game went ok. They especially enjoyed it when I let them name the characters first.

Here's a couple review activities for this chapter.

It's is simple, a few sentences in big font.  I'm going to print them off, cut them up into chunks, and have the students race in teams to put them back together in the correct order.  I am doing the same general activities for G1 lesson 8, 9, and 10 tomorrow as they have their exams on M, T, and W of next week.

For this one, I also have a whole sentence activity.  The sheet is in the right order, but I will print it, and cut each sentence to its own strip and they will have to put the paragraph in order.
Easy peasy.

Here's the stuff I did

I practiced the key phrases from the book trying to think of anything they might be interested in (anything they might want to have a job in)/what was already in the book as their vocab words.

The activity for the first lesson is R/P/S interview (My kids had a BLAST! But it gets a little loud... and some of my classes were next to second grader classrooms when the second grad had tests   ) walk around and make sure they are using the whole phrase, most of my kids were well behaved!

You might want to find one more activity, or find some other way to stretch the first lesson. Many of my classes were finishing early for the first lesson!

second lesson I did the two listening activities from that chapter and then one of the chapter 10 listening activities from the back of the book (it is more challenging so let them listen to it at least twice before you start asking them questions and then play it again, after they write down the answers, to let the lower level students hear the answers after they know what to listen for!)... (this is on pg 234. A 1. an 2. . they fill in the introduction to Jenny's father then they listen to and answer two questions)

Boys will go CRAZY for LoL game... and if they finished early/had apples left at the end of class (apple get erased if they are too noisy) then I played the boys a "10 of the best plays in LoL" youtube clip. They were climbing over my desk trying to get a better look not caring at all that it was all in English!  ;D 8) #coolteacher
(I played the girls a different reward clip)

This was one of my best lessons of the year, and almost everything worked well. The speaking exercise was a challenge for the lower level class, but even then, not too bad.

It took 2 classes to complete and went in this order (but you can do it as you please of course!

1) Introduce topics of jobs and review be verb: I am, You are, He/She is
1) Professions worksheet
2) PPT part I - answers to worksheet. Then repeat with pronunciation.
3) Matching Game
4) PPT Part II, then book.
5) Bingo for occupations (but say I'm interested in helping sick people, but I'm not a nurse. Answer = doctor).
6) PPT part III, then book and followed by speaking practice interview (survey)
7) worksheet review p156-157

Good luck!
