green Middle School book by Marie J. Guilloteaux
« on: February 28, 2011, 10:04:59 am »
My school got new text books this year for 1st and 2nd grade. They are a retro green color with cartoon kids in a car on the front. The only non-Korean author is Marie J Guilloteaux.

Anybody have this book and want to share lesson plans?

Hi,

Yeah I have these books for middle school - 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grades. I'm trying to teach in a more contextual style this year, as in giving the students a challenge to do in the lesson where they have to use the target language, and then annalysing the target language at the end of the lesson.

Will be making lesson plans this weekend!  :)

I'll be using this book for Grade 3.  So the first lesson is: 'What's the Difference Between Girls and Boys.'

I was thinking I might just get them to draw diagrams.  ::)

Really, I'll start planning my first lesson over the next few days, and post any resources.  I'm doing intro lessons this week.

I'm using these books for first and third grades. I'll post ideas too. At a quick glance, the books seem pretty good. Definitely better than my last third grade book.

Here are power points for Grades 1 and 2, Lessons 1-3. Its just the text book information, but I like using power points instead of the CDs that come with the book.

For 1st grade, I'm going to play the hobbies game from www.eatyourkimchi.c om after we finish the slides. For the second week, I'm going to have them complete the future jobs password worksheet (also from eat your kimchi).

But I'm stuck on what to do for the 2nd grade! I'm going to have them play a board game using "should" and "I can't stand" for the second week, but not sure what I could do for a 20 minute activity after going through the power point slides.

Please give some ideas!! :)

UPDATE: I just realized I posted the wrong board game....the "why don't you" gameboard was NOT what I intended to upload. Sorry!

Anyone using these books for grade 3 too?

This is my attempt at the girls Vs boys chapter
I awarded points for participation and answering and made the class a boys versus girls competition.

My grade 3 are generally really bad - low level, impossible to discipline but today they were the most engaged I have ever seen them.
the ppt may be too simple for other grade 3 classes tho

I teach first and third grade. I just teach the listening and speaking sections. This week I'm doing the listening section and these ppts. I teach all boys so the 'Differences between Boys and Girls' was fun; they really got into it. My third graders can be hard work too.

Could you please re-post as .ppt (not .pptx).  I have an older version of Office, and I cannot install the .pptx reader.

Actually, I'd like to ask in general for people to not post in docx format (.pptx, .docx, .xlsx) for the same reason.  Thanks.

Hello,

I also have these books for Middle School and am required to teach with them - "Time to Talk" and "Time to Write". Looking forward to contributing to this feed and seeing what you all have done. The dialogs are a bit contrived and can be difficult to work with at times.

Here are vocab lists for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. I give them 20 new words every week and the following week we do something with them - play a game, bingo etc. They are required to write 5 sentences using the vocab for the following class to be used in conversation the first 10 minutes of class.

Is this ok? I'm not entirely sure how to save as a different type of file

Thanks!  I will try it.

If you simply delete the 'x' from the filename it won't work, but if you did a 'Save As...' and then selected an older version of Powerpoint (such as Office 2003 or Office 2007) from the drop-down box then it will save the file in a different format I can use.

Since I don't know what you did, and you aren't sure what you should do then I don't know if it will work, but I will try.

Many of us have older versions of Office on our PCs and classroom PCs, and they won't work with the docx format (thanks, Microsoft!).  I know there is a docx converter for older versions of Office, but it's not possible to install on the PCs in my school.

Anyway, thank you.

I have these books too. I used the 1st and 2nd grade ones last year so I have some (pretty bad) materials for those classes. The 3rd grade one is new to me though. I'm starting lesson 2 - the one about parrots - next week. I have to cover the stuff in the time to talk section but it has to be stretched out over 3 classes. I'm drawing a total blank for fun things to do using the phrase 'what do you mean?'....any ideas?

I can upload stuff for the first chapter of each book, if anyone still wants it...

2nd Grade- I taught from the book this week for Lesson One. Next week, they will play this board game using the new phrases from the book. Hope this helps somebody!

I also attached a "behind the box" ppt game. I got this template from http://people.uncw.edu/ertzbergerj/ppt_games.html , and have already added pictures behind the boxes. If there's time left in class, I'll ask them review questions to remove each box.

1st and 2nd grade- Lesson 2

1st grade- Right now I'm thinking of playing "pass the paper" first (using who what where when and why).
Then we'll cover the book's dialogue, and maybe another round of pass the paper or a game of telephone if there's time left. I got the "pass the paper" ppt from a waygook post, but have adapted it a little. I tried searching for the original post, but nothing came up.

2nd grade- I'm going to show the Where the hell is Matt? video. http://blog.naver.com/voltroom?Redirect=Log&logNo=20119099093&jumpingVid=CC093D7BBAE6EFB10FEE5E2558A49D539E4E and have students write down all the places they've been and want to go.
Then we'll cover the book's dialogue.
After that, we will play Top 5 Countries. Again, this is a game from waygook, but nothing came up when I searched for it! So, kudos to the two people who helped me out with Lesson 2 games. :)

ALSO: I re-attached the "behind the box" game I previously posted. This one has clearer pictures, and hopefully more kids know who Tiger Woods is (as opposed to Taylor Swift). All the classes have LOVED this game, and the great thing is, all you need are review questions!

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome!

1st grade- Lesson 2

Doing the listening section this week.
Here's the ppt that I'm using to introduce the key expressions.
The last few slides are the answers to a worksheet I'll be giving them.

Thanks for the picture game idea rdh; I'm going to use that next week with my third grade students.

Here is my ppt for grade 2 chapter 2 time to talk

For the dialogue jigsaw I just printed and cut up the sentences from the following slides for each group and had students make new example.conversatio ns
For the final part where they make up their own examples - I always promise a prize to the most imaginative ideas (ie something strange) or else you will end up with tons of "i met big bang/shinee/2pm etc etc etc"

this might be helpful for the week before mid-terms.  review jeopardy for grade 1.  you might want to change the idiom questions.  the template is from simon and martina.
