Middle School English 3 Daniel Ryan Keller pink book - Lesson 6 The Spinning Coin

For Lesson 6, Listen & Speak 1 C, I modified someone's Superhero Powerpoint.

I had my students guess the superhero.

Then we went around the classroom, and the students made a sentence about each student (Example - Mina is as cute as a rabbit).

For the sentence-making part, I used the Famous People portion of the Powerpoint.

For the rest of the lesson, we practiced outlining the step-by-step instructions for things (Example - making bibimbap, making a ham and cheese sandwich).

The Giving Instructions Powerpoint goes with the Instructions worksheet (I got the Instructions worksheet from someone on Waygook, but I don't remember who I got it from).

Grade 2 Lesson 5 - Class Party - Build UP A and B

I know most of you don't do the build up parts but just in case you need something to teach the grammar points (part A deals with the present perfect tense and part B deals with uncountable nouns.

For the present perfect i showed them the PPT that i made them and then played 2 truths and 1 lie with my kids.  Basically in partners they have to make 3 sentences (i focused on We/she/he) where 1 sentence is false about the pair.  Then in their groups (i got 40 kids so they are in usually groups of 4 or 5) each group should have 2 pairs that have finished so enough for 2 rounds.  First group says theres and every other group tries to guess which one is the lie.  The groups that guess correct can score points.  You can use just the simple 2 points if correct 0 points if not but i use the spinning wheel to make it more exciting and randomly choose how many points the correct team scores.  Kids seem to like the game and try to trick their peers.

For the uncountables (part b) i just had them in groups and 4 and handed out menus that i printed off google. One person in the group was the waiter and had to take the other group members orders.  Focusing on making uncountable nouns countable.  So if their was juice on the menu, the waiter would have to put 1 glass/ or 2 glasses of oj.

Im on lesson 6 now but need a lesson about practicing the 5 senses along with a verb+ing such as Tom saw (sense) the bird singing (verb+ing)  Any suggestions? or is anyone on lesson 6 yet.

Thanks for your help, hope my lesson helps.

Can ANYONE come up with something entertaining and creative for ch 6 grade 1? My coteacher is insisting on this chapter for my open demo lesson and I'm basically sh*tting my pants trying to come up with something....

Ideas, inspirations.... anything?

Honestly, I thought Grade 2, Chapter 6 was going to be a tough lesson to get through, but it actually went over pretty well with my students.

They really seemed to like the visual illusions. I showed pictures similar to the ones in the book (old-young woman, etc) and asked them questions to make sure they saw both images.

For example:
- If this is an old woman, what part of her face is this? Mouth!
- If this is an young woman, what part of her face is this? Neck!

That sort of thing.

I also showed them a video of this live performance group, Fighting Gravity. It fit with the whole "illusion" theme and my kids really seemed to enjoy the video. You can actually download the different performances off their website, which was nice because the quality is pretty good.

I'm uploading my powerpoint. It's nothing special, but maybe it'll give a better idea of how the lesson went.

The only offering I have is my lesson for the Think and Write section. I dunno how useful the PPT for the textbook itself would be as, usually, one does not teach like that from the text book for an open class. However, I made a game for the supplementary activity at the end of the work from the text book. It is a Word Grab Game. I'm posting the PPT with the lesson from the text book which has the aforementioned game at the end. You can just copy and paste the game slides into a new presentation if you wanted to use them without the part for the text book. Also, I'm posting a Word Document with the words for the word grab game. Hope it is useful. The kids LOVED this game in my classes.

Hey, it's getting towards that time of the year so I thought I'd post a review game that I adapted - Who Wants to be a  Candy Millionnaire?

I just had each team of students answer with a/b/c/d/ cards so that everyone had an opportunity to answer every question. The questions in this PPT are Grade 3 Lessons 1-3 but you can change to suit.

GRADE 1 LESSON 6

here's a directions activity i did with my class. I printed a big A1 copy of the map and put it on the board, or you can print small A4 copies and give student his/her own map. the map is an adaptation of a map Michael Holmes made for our orientation lesson plan. Attached is also a question sheet. It fits in really well with L&S 1. As always I also have the basic chapter notes for beginners and advanced students that I drill into them to make sure they have the basics down.

GRADE 1/2 REVIEW:

I'm busy finishing my Review Jeopardy Games for Grade 1 and 2. I'll post them by the end of the week.

Added to that I'll do a script writing review game with my advanced classes. I've done it before and it works really well. In groups of four they have to string together the focus language of each lesson into one script that that they perform in front of the class. This can take almost a whole period for the groups to prepare and then another to present. 1.5 periods I'd say, or you can give them the prep work as homework. My classes use the chapter notes i give them for every chapter and that i've posted on this thread to write their script.

Grade 2 - Lesson 6 - How Does the Cat Sleep Soundly - Have you ever - Present Perfect tense game - "Liar!"

I found this game idea somewhere deep in the internet.  The instructions are a bit long, but once they understand the students enjoy it and it actually got them speaking.  Amazing.

The full instructions are in the lesson plan file below along with the handouts and printable things, but essentially it goes like this:

In groups, all students start with an even amount of play money.  They take turns to ask another student a "Have you ever" question using the handout with verbs and nouns.
When a student is asked a question they must pick up a card from a pile in the middle of the table.  If it says "Tell the truth" they must answer truthfully, if it says 'Tell a lie' then they must lie.
If the rest of the group suspect the student of lying they can say "Liar!".  If they catch them lying then the liar has to pay the accuser $5, if the accusation is wrong then the accuser pays the person who answered $5.

I've uploaded the lesson plan questions handout, money printout and Truth/Lie cards below.

Here is a review game for chapter's 4-5 Grade 3 (pink book). For some reason my co teacher only wanted them to get to lesson 5 and that's their final.

Here is one review jeopardy game i made for grade 3.  the review is covers vocabulary and some of the 'key expressions' from lesson 4,5 and 6.   i will be the first to admit it is not a dazzling ppt to say the least, but i was under the gun one morning and didn't have much time.   when playing the game you need to use the bottom left icon to return to the main jeopardy screen (the main screed is 'slide 1')

This was really a great review.  I used it at one of my most difficult schools and all the students were flipping through their books.  Even my most advanced student in this class was stumped with some of the question (this never happens as her level is so must higher than the rest).  I used this in conjunction to the who wants to be a millionaire review and the students appreciated the review.

Grade 1. Lesson 2. Do you have healthy habits?

Listen and Speak 2.

We learn the language, being able to express preference.

I love..
I like...
I don't like...
i hate...

Afterwards, I give them a worksheet and simply post 20 pictures and ask students to write down their preference for each picture. Afterwards, we gather the information and find out what majority students' preferences are. Then we will practice speaking the top preferences for the 20 pictures.

simple. and depending on how good the pictures are, fun.
