I'm a newbie here and am happy to have found this thread.
I too teach from these "wonderful" books and am halfway through my second year doing so.
Thanks to everyone who's posted their ideas and lessons.
I'll post mine asap!

Grade 1, Chapter 7: Namaste From India

Here's the lesson I used last year for this chapter. There's a little lesson about India and then a tutorial on how to write a post card.

It's summer and many of us are probably deskwarming now, so let's share our ideas for the coming semester :)

Grade 2, Chapter 7: Who Will You Give a Ride? (This title bugs me because it should be "Who WOULD You Give a Ride?" since it's a hypothetical situation, *sigh)

I made this lesson last year "Who would you save? Shipwreck scenario" to go along with this chapter:

Grade 3: Lesson 7 - AESOP Fable Writing Activity (Should have/Shouldn't have)
« Reply #330 on: August 17, 2011, 10:53:55 am »
Hi Teachers!

I came up with a supplementary writing activity to help the students practice "should have/shouldn't have" (GRADE 3, LESSON 7).

It uses an Aesop fable, The Tortoise and the Hare (both a Youtube video and PPT story).  You can watch the clip, then go through the story and fill out the worksheet as a class.  At the end, students come up with their own "should have/shouldn't have statements."  I think this can be stretched into a 45-minute class if you ask the students many questions along the way and get them to share many or their sentences with eachother.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

If anyone can help me with lesson 7. I usually have to spit 'lessons' in the textbook into two 45min sessions. I have one ok, but need help with the first part 'you know what....'

I am thinking of just introducing various adjectives as possible responses (eg. thats amazing/boring/crazy/interesting/stupid then giving them various facts and statements and eliciting acceptable responses. Then getting them to make their own statements or writing their own facts, and sharing amongst themselves.. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

(I feel like after the break I am nervous of going back and cant think of good ideas to do in the class!! Those who have previously used these books if you could put up your lessons plans for 7-12 it would be amazing and soooooo helpful to me as a new teacher and many many others on here. Please could you if it's not too much trouble!)

If any of you guys know how to use Prezi, here is my Prezi for Grade 1 Lesson 7, Listen in and Speak Out

http://prezi.com/tyyhuj9eknjw/ordering-food-at-a-restaurant/

Grade 2 Lesson 7 Prezi

http://prezi.com/jnr3debsqmep/it-was-interesting-fun-boring/

I'm still modifying it, but prezi works best with an iPad 2. You can, however, use it efficiently on a laptop. If anybody else is using prezi, post them up! It's like powerpoint, but it allows students to see the bigger picture at the end of your presentation.

Grade 3: Lesson 8

This game will help students practice expressing hopes/expectations, such as, "It will be nice to..."

Each student fills out a slip of paper with 5 of their future hopes on it.  The powerpoint gives many examples so they should have no problem filling it out.

You can then collect all of the slips and put them into a bag.  A student from each group comes up, reads another students' slip (remember, it is anonymous!), and they get 3 chances to guess which classmate it is.

1st guess - 3 points
2nd guess - 2 points
3rd guess - 1 point

I've done this last year and it was a success.

Enjoy!

Hello

Here is a quick presentation for Grade 3 Lesson 7 - I should/shouldn't have. This is to introduce the vocab/grammar and go through the textbook dialogue.

For the 'activity' week for this part of the lesson, I am thinking of writing a funny story with a series of events, then getting the students to come up with "he should have..." and "he shouldn't have..." blah blah blah. I got the idea from the person who added the rabbit & tortoise story on here! I will post my story when I come up with something but thought I should share the idea for all you creative writers out there!

Cheers

I'm working on the Grade 3 : Should have and Shouldn't have  lesson and I'm trying to start class off with a video clip either from a movie or Simpsons episode. Some clip that illustrates regrets or mistakes. Any ideas???

Grade 2 Lesson 8

A choose your own adventure game I put together for Grade 2 Lesson 8. I don't know how to do hyperlinks, so I took another choose your own adventure ppt here on waygook, and I changed the storyline and pictures based on these oh so fun Thomas Orr books.
