Thanks very much for this. It looks good, and I really like the guessing game.

I teach 1st and 3rd. While I used the 1st grade book last year, we just got the 3rd year one - and like everyone else, I'm a little disappointed with it.
Anyway, my school's students are very low level, so my class is really an experiment in listening and understanding spoken English.

My stuff would prob only be useful if you're also teaching low level students. Here's the PPT + handout for 1styear/ch01.

Great work Summer! Thanks for this

The color coding for the longer introduction was simple and brilliant.

This is a review i did for my gr 1 lesson 1 - its a template i found here. Don't remember where i found it. but i did a little review of the speaking activities cause that's about all i cover in the textbook. Also if your interested in this the last two questions are from a pronunciation activity i had taught previously so you might want to change that. :)

This is a link to the video I'm going to use with my Grade 1 lesson 1 classes to introduce handshakes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz2jieBg6H8

I thought it was pretty funny but then maybe I've just been cooped up in school too long today!  :)

bubblieri , those are more great examples of famous couples, technically there is no Mama Smurf . . at least not that I remember. Also, I didn't realize the Smurfs were so popular in Korea.

Here's a game I have been doing to practice introducing others. It's been really successful, all the students have wanted to have a go and the whole class is engaged. This could work for both grade 1 and grade 2, unit 1.

Print out the attached sheets and cut out the words. You need 4 separate bags - I bought cheap gift bags from daiso but you could just use plastic bags from shops.

The first bag needs to have the people in it (mum, sister, grandma etc). The second bag needs to have jobs in it (I haven't attached these because I already had some laminated ones at school, but just print out a list of about 20 jobs - soldier, dancer, tax driver, builder, dentist, doctor and astronaut worked best for me.) The third bags needs to have countries or cities in it (London, Paris, Denmark etc) and the final bag has different ages in it (5, 101, 66 years old etc)

Write on the board:

This is my...
He/ she is a....
He/ she is from...
He/she is ..... years old.

Line up the bags in the right order on different desks at the front of the class. Students have to come to the front of the room, one at a time and take it in turns to introduce the people in the bags using the phrases above. Obviously they don't know what they are going to pull out of the bag and usually it ends up being very funny with the whole class laughing. For example this would have the class in stitches "This is my mum, she is a soldier, she is from Paris she is 110 years old." I gave out stamps to the students who did it, most students wanted to and it lasts about 15 minutes.

Here is a review lesson for Grade 1 Chapter 1 and a bit of Chapter 2. Open a Door to the World

Some of the powerpoint slides are borrowed from other people's work on here, thank you to those folks.

Basically it reviews the "He is dancing" "They are shopping" type sentences, then presents a few examples of family trees. On the worksheet students should draw their families (they can make up pretend family members if they prefer) and introduce them (ie "This is my sister, she likes to cook." "This is my dad, he is fat." etc).

It's extremely basic because my students are all quite low level, and I only see them once every two weeks - so we don't exactly cover a lot of ground most classes.
