Here's a worksheet/ homework paper that I "threw together" after stumbling through the 1st lesson. Co teacher nor I had no clue as to what content etc to follow. And I've spent free class time searching through the CD. It's where this stuff was "copied & pasted" from. Hoping this book gets more exciting soon.

I must say, I prefer the old version of the book...but here goes:
I will do Listen and Speak 1 in the first lesson, along with the exercises in the red yellow and blue sections pertaining to the topic of seeing someone after a long time. I also put together a PPT to introduce the target phrases at the beginning of the lesson. And a roleplay worksheet, which they'll do together in pairs, memorise and present, at the end of the lesson (both adapthed from other waygooks, thx!)

Here is what I did for the first half of chapter one about meeting and greeting people. First we did the CD-rom for page 10, then I broke my class into six teams so that every time someone answers they get a point. Team with the most points at the end gets a "reward buck" to be used at the end of the semester for prizes, such as candy. I let the kids not only answer what they have in the book; but I'm good, tired, hungry or when ending the conversation things like see you next week, see you tomorrow, pretty much anything they tell me gets them a point.

As the worksheet shows, they had a word scramble, which they love, I may make the next one longer. Then they practiced with a partner the conversations between President Park Geun-hye, Justin Bieber, Yoon Eun-hye and Lee Min-ho. Whoever at the end of class demonstrated the conversation with their partner also got a reward buck, but I didn't tell them that till I handed them out at the end of class. Next week I’m going to have them introduce their alien they create during class at the end.

Here is my lesson for part B...introducing others.

I did pages 11 and 12 in the book, before I introduced my family and friends. (Depending on time, I would drop people out.) I would leave about 13 minutes for them to draw and write about their own alien, four to draw or so, and then we played hot potato. Whoever had the potato when the music stops had to introduce their alien.

Enjoy...Note I just put place holders in for photos, so you need to add your own, or delete them.

Here is my lesson for the speaking part of Lesson 1: Hi, Everyone! (I only teach the speaking part of the textbook). I think it's pretty self-explanatory, I introduced some of the key phrases from the textbook, and then have an activity at the end where I show the students pictures and they guess where I'm from or what I like. They then have to make a complete sentence, e.g. "I am from London, England" and then we say it all together. It took up an entire 45 minute lesson. You might want to change some of the slides in the "where am I from" sections as I included my hometown and the town I live in. Hope someone finds it useful :)

Students are split into groups. They each get a picture from the document file. They must make a poster promoting the animal as the best pet. They list reasons. After all is done, they present.

My lessons are divided between speaking, reading, and writing with one class spent on each. This is just the speaking part which covers Listen and Speak parts 1 and 2.

0. Since it's our first time meeting, I introduce myself. With higher levels, I will give keywords like "Mokpo", "Canada" and "26". They will need to think about what the question would be, such as "How old are you?" or "Where do you live?". This is probably too high level for most of my students. Otherwise I just tell brief/interesting/fun things about me.

1. Greetings (Hello & How are you?)
I explain the different expressions, give examples, then have them practice using their whiteboards in groups (they get points as a group which will go toward their final grade). Then we do the textbook - Listen and Speak 1.

2. Introductions (This is my friend, ____)
Same as the greetings, then textbook - Listen and Speak 2

3. Activity - Introducing their friend OR 2 Truths, 1 Lie

If there's extra time I may quiz them about me and give more points

Here is my reading lesson.

1. Review greetings and introductions from previous lesson
2. Explain and recite the chapter's vocabulary with a whiteboard quiz for points
3. Read. For first graders, I tend to stick with read/repeat for at least the first semester as they get used to the routine.
4. Bomb game with comprehension/vocabulary questions

I split my lessons into two days. This is usually after an introduction class. I have to use the first three pages of the book, but I try to squeeze in another activity for each day. For the first day, I have the students play a tic tac toe game using facts from my introduction in the beginning. For the second day, I talked about St. Patrick's day because it was around that time of year.

This is a follow up from Conversation Activity Blue (Page 15).

First, a quick gapfill for them to replace the information from section B with their own.

Second, a quick celebrity list with pictures & info they can use for introductions:
"Suzy, this is The Queen. She's from England and likes waving" etc.

Finally a connect 4 using above celebrities. Students pick a celebrity from the top and side and say the appropriate introduction dialogue before signing that square. 4 in a row wins.

I made a few edits to ppt's above. I also reworked and made an alien introduction activity. When they introduced their aliens we played Hot Potato and I played music. They would use the ppt as assistance to introduce their alien to the class if they needed. My CT's and students really enjoyed the activity. Thanks to the other waygooks for their ppts.
