Grade 1, Lesson 3

Here is my first part for "Do you want to...".

The ppt has three slides to review "Let's go...".

It's pretty easy to see what I did. I broke up the answers into Yes, I want to, and then the verb part "go to the movies" "wash the dishes" and so on, to make sure they answer in complete sentences.

The main activity is a board game that I let them play in groups of four or five. It's really easy and the rules are on the board. (I stole the main board from another waygook, so thank you!) I have them rock, paper, scissor to see who goes first.

The rules: Roll the dice and move up that number of spaces.  If you roll a 6 you must move your piece back to the start space. You must ask your playing partners the question, “Do you want to…” based on the pictures in the squares. If your partners do not answer your question, they lose a turn. The first person to the “Finish” square wins! 

Winner from each group gets a sticker. In my class five stickers get you candy! :) Hope you enjoy it.

For the first part:

Start with the powerpoint, adapted from colabear. For the first part of the powerpoint - to practice what do you want to do: I'll ask a volunteer to come to the front and look at the two options on the screen ie "read a book" vs "eat ice cream". The student has to secretly indicate to teacher wich on she prefers. Have all other students stand, and have them guess which one the student in front chose. Ie "If you think she wants to eat ice cream, raise your hand". Then, students ask the one in front: "What do you want to do?" The students in front will answer, ie: "I want to read a book" Everyone who raised their hand, would then sit down. Repeat the same for the rest of the pictures.

After the power point I'll go throught the relevant parts in the book, and then end with a bingo game. I'll divide them into teams of 4, and give each team a laminated bingo board (attached) and some tokens to cover the squares (I used laminatedblack paper squares). Each team wil get a chance to come to the front to read the bingo sentences (attached) together. The class will ask together: "What do you want to do?" The team in front will answer: "I want to ..."The first team to get 1 bingo, gets 2 points. The second team to get a bingo, gets 1 point. After the second team gets a bingo, the game is over and we start a new game, with another team coming to the front to read the bingo sentences. It usually takes up a good 20 minutes.
