I was just handed this book as well. My country school has a different first grade book. But the first lesson is basically the same. Instead of re-doing the whole lesson plan/lessons I'm just using the same thing for both.

It has introductions/how are you included in both. I'll also attach my lesson plans. Hope this helps everyone for their first class!

I've gotta teach from the textbook...here's my take on the first few pages...will be adding a part b later.

For the study skill section on page 13 I basically recorded myself speaking really fast... students respond with text suggestions.

Here is my lesson for chapter 1: a new start. I used it as a chance to get to know the kids a little since they are my new students. I taught this lesson over two weeks. First week I presented the language and let them start the worksheet. The following week, they finished coloring and cutting out the flower (from the worksheet) and each student presented themselves to the class. The lesson worked pretty well for me, but the kids will take a long time to color the flower if you don't rush them. Flowers also double as classroom decorations.

Hi there,
This is the lesson I put together for making nicknames. I start off by handing out the small name strips. Then the students must mingle and introduce themslves by saying "let me introduce myself, I'm ..." until they have found their partner ie. Bat + Man = Batman. After that I run through the ppt. explaining what a nickname is (sorry for all my family photos, please feel free to replace them with your own). Next we create nicknames for everyone and then I ask them to use their new nickname to make an avatar. I don't like to spend too long on the drawing side of this lesson as I think its more important for them to speak, so I set a timer for 10 minutes.  After that we role play in pairs meeting at a Bus stop and introducing themselves. For my low level class I leave the dialogue slide up for them to refer to but for my higher level class I let them make up their own role play. I give them about 5 minutes to practice and then they present it to their groups. The best pair comes to the front and presents it to the class.  And that's about it.
