This is a simple worksheet I made for my students.  They either circle agree or disagree.  Then, on the bottom, they will write their own question and share with the class.  Once they have completed their worksheets, I will read the worksheet, and have them go to one of either two corners "Agree" or "Disagree", based on their answers.  I thought that this would be interesting for them to see what their classmates think.

Lesson 7.
The lessons are the same, just one is for Higher level classes and the other low .level classes.
I started doing Vocab worksheets, so that the information doesn't leave their brains when they leave the class.

Here's the PPT I made for this lesson. I used much of Debmm's PPT, so thanks for that!

I focused only on giving an opinion and agree/disagree.

Also, the end of the lesson is a mini "music opinion" lesson, where I make the students listen to four different kinds of music (pop, rock, Broadway, and acapella) and give their opinion about it. I am NOT attaching the music files here. Feel free to use your own mp3s and genres :)

Wonderful lesson Debmm!  I took the idea and changed it up a bunch to suit my students' tastes.  I'm also pairing it with a music video (not sure what video yet) and will ask them questions about the video, prompting the target language.

I have to cover this over 2 weeks - I based most of my lesson on my grade 2 lesson (they had similar phrases). also borrowed a little bit from Debmm to help students understand opinion.

So I start with a scene from Pink Panther, the kids love it (ps click the inspector's head to play the video) and ask sts if they think that they said the same thing. From there I explain that if you think the same then we use the phrase " I agree/I think so too" if they think different the use the phrases "I disagree/I don't think so"

Next I move on to giving a few examples and asking sts whether they are or disagree with the pictures. From there I move on to "Judging time" where I say which one is better out of 2 pics and again asking students if they agree or disagree.

For the activity, I have sts in their notebooks draw up a table that has 1-9 going down the left side and 3 sub-headings across the top, each reading - I think the song is good/ I think the singer/singers is/are good/ I think the video is amazing. Sts then listen watch 9 music videos (I stop each song just after the chorus). The objective is to get sts to write I agree or I disagree with each sub heading for each song. General they write after each song. Once they are done they take turns in asking their partners whether they agree/disagree.

Attached is lesson 1, the pink panther video(download the video clip and keep all files in the same folder) and the music opinion list.

Ok part 2...oh yes in the previous lesson I stress that "I'm for/against it" is for serious issues not music/food/movies/clothes etc.

So here I start off by reviewing the previous lesson by going through the music opinion table with sts while using the artists pics. Then I move on to showing 3 movie trailers to try and elicit adjectives from sts. I quickly drill a few examples of adjectives and then move onto opinions and finally the phrase "too much"

for the activity I just used the Gangnam style bomb game.

For some reason the audio is not working on the Gagnam Style game.

Here's my introduction to opinions.  The final game is golden bell style.  Each team gets a mini white board and if they write a unique opinion (that makes sense) they get a point.

Hello!

Can't remember where i found the World of Warcraft PPT format from but i have adapted it to the "For or Against" lesson.

So please find 20 questions in a bomb game format on "For" "Against" "I Agree" "I disagree" and "What do you think of.." I found that my students didn't understand the difference between Agree and For so this *should* serve to remedy that.

You will have to change the picture of me, and "Mark Teacher" for every other slide, but that shouldn't take long. There are more slides after the 20, but i haven't used them as i needed a simple layout and no "challenging" or whatever they are for.

Hope this helps!

Here are my materials for lesson 7. Pillaged most of the pics in the PPT from the posters above (thanks guys  ;D )

Part A – as a warmer we did the ‘real or fake?’ slides that I found here on waygook, and had students shout out their opinions using the key vocab ‘I agree / I don’t agree’. Then we did the wordsearch and the first listening part, and moved onto the ‘What do you think of…’ grammar part.
Here I used jacobakristen‘s unique opinions game

Part B – more real or fake warmup pictures (for the last one, I showed them the video of Felix Baumgartner base jumping from the statue, attached here). Worked through some listening, then introduced ‘I’m for / I’m against’ and contrasted it with merely agreeing / disagreeing.
I then handed out the SURVEY WORKSHEET, and explained that I would use their answers for a game the following week. There are references to my school, so be sure to change those.

Part C – FAMILY FEUD-type game day. Obviously this is a heavy one for the teacher, but definitely worth it in my opinion – my school is tiny, so it didn’t take too long, but for a bigger school it might be more of an issue. I tallied up all their answers to the survey, and loaded them into a family feud template I found here on waygook. Some of the results were interesting 
Overall this was one of the most successful classes of the year

Hi guys,
This is the lesson I prepared for my c class. They are very weak and can only handle the most basic dialogues. I focused on getting them to give an opinion about school subjects by using the sentence structure : I think  ____ is ____.

First we played last man standing, in which they each read 1, 2 or 3 words. The person who read the last word in the sentence had to sit down and was out. Next we ran through the new vocab and filled in the worksheet. Then we did a pair dialogue using dice. They had to roll the dice to choose their subject and then roll again to choose their adjective. The first person to use all their subjects and adjectives was the winnner. And finally we played guess the card. The students had to make a sentence and then turn over a card. If their guess was right they could keep the card/ pile, if not it went on the face up pile. The player with the most cards won. Pretty simple stuff but it got them repeating the dialogue over and over. All the instructions are in the ppt but if you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Note: I only made one sheet of cards and then photocopied it about a million times to get a good amount of cards for them to play with  :undecided:

Hi again,
Here are some other activities if you need to plump out your lesson a bit.

The first activity is a simple agree/ disagree. I get the students to move to one side of the classroom depending on whether they agree with the statement or not (nothing fancy).

The second activity is a 30 second debate and it should only be used for your high level classes. I divide the class into pairs and then have them play rock scissor paper. The winner starts by either agreeing or disagreeing with the statement on the screen. I shout go and they must speak for a full 15 seconds (I tried 30 seconds per person but it didn't work because it was too hard, 15 seconds was still enough of a challenge.) Then I shout stop and they switch. The partner must now take the opposing opinion and speak for 15 seconds. When this activity works well, it works really well...but when it doesn't, it sucks. My A class loved it (very high level), my B class hated it (medium level).

Note: one of the slides mentions single sex schools. This got a gasp and embarrassed giggles every single time. Feel free to change it. Or keep it and revel in the awkwardness. It's up to you.

Finally I did crazy challenges which was a scream! All my kids loved it, regardless of their levels (although speaking was minimal ) I pulled names out of a hat and had two kids come up to the front of the class. Then I had said who I thought would win the challenge. If the rest of the class agreed with me they stood up, if they didn't they stayed sitting. Very simple but very effective.

Hey Tea's

Thank you for all the creative ppts and the hours you've spent in front of your laptops prepping for classes.

Here is a simple ppt I put together with all your brilliant ideas for Lesson 7. It's centred around the dictation. What I usually do with the tedious dictation class is select students randomly from their "Chool-seo-boo" (attendance book - each class has one) and let them come to the front of the class and role-play while the class write the missing words.

Have a blessed day,
J.T.

Here's Part 2 for the second class.

We played a hidden picture puzzle game. I divided the class into four rows for it, choose a "captain" for each row, and asked students to raise their hands and guess. They awarded points for every answer...creativity is the golden key in our classes, so let their vocab, ideas and imaginations run free.

You can give your own unique rewards to the kids. I usually high five them and allow the winning team to choose any English Pop song from my laptop's library. The losing team gets to write 7 words from the lesson in their textbooks.

Till next time.
J.T
