As an extra activity (introduction or to wrap up the lesson ) , I found this worksheet song  " Wake-Up America ". You can download the music video from YouTube.

This topic is similar to a 6th Grade ( elementary school textbook - http://waygook.org/index.php?topic=40775 )

Hope this helps :)

Here is my introduction powerpoint that I used for lesson 9. It introduces some of the new language and must vs should.

For this lesson I tried something different with the talk section of the book. Normally I just get the students to practice/memorize/present the dialogues. This week I have been using a bomb game that basically tricks them to read/speak the dialogues over and over again. I don't go over the textbook and just tell them to find the answers on p.164. Credit to Sprite06 for the template.

Ok so this is part 1 of my lesson, its focuses on 2 key phrases : you should and what a pity. I have to spread this chapter over 2 weeks so please bear with the extra stuff.

I open the lesson up by handing out a worksheet that has multiple choice questions and tell the students to read the questions. Then I play the video clip Le Royaume (its hyperlinked to the pic, so just click on the pic. It is a nice way to show Global warming). After the video is finished I tell them to answer the questions... I then run through the answers with them. Next I move on to describing global warming (the melting ice cube pic is hyper linked with a short video about what causes global warming, so click on it). I try to then elicit causes of global warming, then move on to way it is bad and try to elicit that as well. Lastly I try and elicit ways to stop GW.

I then focus on the key phrases. After teaching them the "You should" I use this awesome prezi created by someone else to drill "you should" whilst still sticking to the theme of the chapter. I usually do about 4 examples because of time. Lastly I finish up by teaching and quickly drilling what a pity. to end off I use showtek's crossword puzzle (i changed some of the definitions slightly to fit my lesson explanations) I make them work in pairs to complete and offer candy to the first 3 pairs to complete it.

This lesson focuses on using "should / shouldn't" and "must / mustn't".

1. ppt - on the first slide there is a hyperlink for the Shinee song "save energy". Students watch the video and afterwards I ask them what ways we can help save energy and the environment. Write their ideas on the board and elicit target language "should" etc.

2. Match pictures with sentences and correct answers together.

3. Tic Tac Toe game - in partners play tic tac toe. To put your symbol ( x or o) in a box the student must  read the problem in that box and then give advice. 3 in a row = 1 point. Continue playing. Student with most points wins the game.

I made a worksheet using the "Evolution and Pollution" Video. I used this in conjunction with the textbook and the above powerpoint on global warming so thanks for that!

Hope this can be of use to someone.

The video link in on the worksheet.

Here is my lesson plan and materials for the lesson. A thanks goes to other posters for their .ppts, prezi links and tic tac toe game. Thanks also goes to the previous teacher at my school.

I took what the previous teacher had used and some of the good ideas from this thread and put together something that will work for my class. After finishing the book work, students will make their own conservation posters while giving a message about what they want to change and how it "should" or "must" be done. (the vocab matching worksheet that I have attached also goes with the 1.9.1 intro.ppt where there are pictures for them associate the words and definitions with)

***You can find the tic tac toe game and the original prezi link in previous posts on this thread. A direct link to the prezi presentation is found in my .ppt by clicking on the top right picture on slide 5.

Part A – focusing on the phrases ‘What’s the matter’, and giving advice using ‘You should…’. Did some listening, wordsearch worksheet, worked though the PPT, and finally divided them into pairs to do the advice comic (adapted from a ppt from waygook from a different textbook page – can’t find the original source)

Part B – we did the code worksheet (also adapted, not my work). Then we continued with some listening, and got into the prohibition part. I introduced this by contrasting it with the command section from the previous chapter.
Finally we did the Angry Birds boardgame

Part C – finished off the listening, did some review, and played Pictionary using the target phrases.

Hi guys,
SimonV made such an awesome coin flick game for grade 3 lesson 8 that I decided to try make my own for this unit. It's not as good as his, but its still lots of fun to play. First I run through the ppt with my students, eliciting and then drilling the key expression, "We should/ we shouldn't". Then I divide the class into teams of four and handout the game boards with the coins. The instructions on how to play are in the ptt. (To make the game boards I just stick the two pages together with a coin flick 'slot' on the right hand side. I lamenated them so they would have extra durability but it's not necessary.)
